I suppose this is partially asking when will the next expansion of the general economy begin. Still, I’m curious, does “Wall Street”/Financial Services jobs and recruiting expansion typically lead the or lag the overall economy? When do you forecast the next major personnel expansion in this space?
Well, since nobody seems to be interested in making a prediction. I will make my own. I’m guessing it will be at least three years. The last three recessions lasted 18 months, assuming were in recession, this recession will be worse than 01-02, 90-91, 80-81, I extend time frame to 24 months. Add another 12 months for the economy to really pick up steam. Deal activity will come back strong, ever more boomers seeking financial advice and management services, and possible new innovative credit structures to circumvent likely new regulation that will be introduced – all on top of an ever more arcane global financial environment in general – contributing to an increase in professionals across the board.
that sucks man ! so are you saying 2011?
Interesting prediction. Do firms typically hire in anticipation of a recovery or take a more cautious wait and see type of approach? I suppose it depends on the position, but I am speaking generally for front office jobs. My firm is extremely cautious and tends to hit things mid-cycle, for better or for worse.
