You still need to pay for the cable to get wifi which is $50-60 dollars nowadays. At that point most people end up getting some basic cable package anyway.

You don’t need to pay for cable if you want internet only. I stopped my cable and currently pay around $50 for internet only (300mpbs). Combining cable with internet would run at about $80/month for both.

I used to have a Cable TV/Internet/landline phone package costing around $120 per month. Dropped the landline phone and cable TV, keeping just the Internet for $70 per month. Added Youtube TV for another $35 per month, so $105 per month total.
A small saving overall – haven’t missed the landline since we got rid of it. Youtube TV has a better channel selection than my (basic) cable package did, plus the cloud DVR feature is useful.

on a side note. has anyone ever thought of internet cutting? as in removing the wireline home internet service to be replaced by 4g unlimited mobile then to use hotspots as a wireline alternative?
as a follow up, 5g is coming which is expected to be at least 10x to 100x faster so i am sure the coming of 5g around 2020 will cause a major upheaval in the wireline services assuming of course that its current drawbacks, spotty connections are fixed.

i dont have cable - have internet for like $45, then bum netflix from my brother, pay for hulu, & bum HBO from my gf’s dad. also have rabbit ears which work shockingly well - can watch HD television for CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX & a bunch of other random channels.
I have some relatives that live in the middle of nowhere and this is their only option. It works okay but less than ideal. You’ll have to downgrade your fapping setting from video to literotica.
Where I live, the 4g signal is pretty bad, so Internet cutting isn’t a viable option. Plus we need the higher bandwidth of cable Internet with kids streaming Netflix at the same time we are using Youtube TV…
No reason to cut for me. Got free wireless from my neighbor. Sometimes its a bit slow, but better free than paying a big cable bill

Cut the cord but now I pay for HuluTV (no commercials add on + HBO), Netflix, and Amazon Prime. It’s probably about the same as cable in the end. What makes it worth it is that the wife can watch all of her crap on the ipad in the same room while I do other things on the big TV. (Turtle beach headset with surround sound is a great investment)
I do Hulu with HBO because they are running a special where HBO is like 5 a month. I also pay for Showtime during Billions and then turn it off afterwards
