I doubt the Feds ultimately pursue it. They only take cases they can win and this would be a huge uphill battle. I think this is just lip service until the unrest dies down.

“creep ass cracker” deserves some lengthy discussion. This really solidifies my belief that TM was not the aggressor. Think about it. He could have said " this punk white boy is following me". Which is more in line with someone being confident about them self and willing to be confrontational. But he used creepy ass cracker. People tend to stay away from creepy things especially when it’s dark and you are alone and unarmed. This explains why TM was trying to lose Killerman. Compare that to Killerman who said that “these punks always get away with it” while on phone with dispatcher . Who sounds like the aggressor? Besides no matter who you are, you are more confident to confront someone alone in the the dark when you have 9mm semi automatic in your hip than someone with skittles in their pocket.
Well, there is still the wrongful death civil suit to come (surely). That has a much lower burden of proof than the criminal case. One can only hope that Zimmerman faces some real consequences there, since it is horrific to think that looking suspicious in a hoodie is enough to give a vigilante license to kill with impunity
And yeah, Zimmerman is part Latino, but that’s kinda irrelevant, given that he’s a light skinned Latino that can pretty much pass as white (though not quite pink enough for some people). The Latino community has light skinned and dark skinned Latinos, and the dark skinned ones generally get a raw deal compared to the light skinned ones who for all practical purposes are considered white as long as they have some money and don’t have a strong accent.

If this had been a black-on-black thing or white-on-white thing, it wouldn’t have made even the local news. But because a white person shot a black person (regardless of the reasons why), the twins (Reverend Al and Reverend JJ) have to get involved.
And of course, they are the sole spokespersons for the entire black community.
bchad, do you have any idea what the consequences of such a suit would be? In the OJ Simpson case, he was rich already. So the wrong death suit had some meaning (something to take). It’s not like George Zimmerman has much money. I would guess he spent all the money he had on the criminal suit.
^ OJ was bankrupt after paying Johnnie Cochran $1k/hr for all of the legal fees. His pension was protected so the wrongful death suit really didn’t amount to much. I think his book “If I did it” revenue helped pay back some restitution.
