Posting after a long time but I believe this theory is of no use. I am 1st time LIII taker as well. Had just 1 box when I did not apply for any scholarship. Now I have applied and withdrawn and have 2 boxes. I don’t think it’s a tell sign or anything.
PS: I am 90% confident that I should pass. Will literally be a shock if I don’t make it.
Last year’s bug did not have anything to do with applying and withdrawing from the scholarship. It was just upon going to the landing screen, did you have one or two boxes.
Has anyone (without ever applying and/or withdrawing from a scholarship) gone to the https://mobile.twitter.com/OneorTwoBox screen and seen 2 boxes and the scholarship option.
I am a retaker, no scholarship option, one box, and am decently confident in passing.
If you are retaker of level 3 and visited this forum last year - there is a high likelihood that you would have tried to start an application to test last years tell. Meaning you will likely start out seeing box 2 - the key is if you withdraw and still have box 2.
I think that’s the only factor for retakers - and they might have a behavioral bias in their confidence of passing.
There is an underlying cause to the split decision (box 1 and box 2)…I guess we will find out on the 8th is pass / fail is the cause

im pretty sure last year you had to attempt to apply and if you get the not eligible message then it’s good.
this year is, you apply and withdraw. instead of the inelgible you would get the option to apply in your “profile” and “program” screen.
Well, I believe CFAI is not that naive organization that it will keep giving telling signs every year. People are just overcomplicating oversimplified things. Just think like this : Whenever you start any application and withdraw, it gets stored in the system as a bookmark. The system will ideally always show up that link again assuming that the candidate might need to access it again in future.
This can only be a tell sign if people who are seeing 2 boxes after withdrawing (including me) start seeing 1 box in the first week of August. That should imply CFAI is closing on the scholarships to those who passed. But I seriously doubt even this will happen (for reasons I already mentioned in the first line). So, I think it’s better to wait till the results day and let these mysteries unfold!
Haven’t ever applied for scholarship, nevertheless the link to the scholarship section is no longer available since today or yesterday. Quite confident that it was available beginning of the week
^^ Agree. I wish I have another account at CFAI with no scholarship request applied just to check if I would have only 1 Box.
Since, I, and not only me, accidentally applied for scholarship in June, now it does not only appear as a link than also says “Registered”. When I click on “Check status” it is marked as withdrawn. Thus, your assumes makes sense. Maybe someone there manually should take some action to remove this scholarship registered status from my account.
I mad this same mistake but when I withdrew from my application in June I saw the one box. Weird.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I’m a lot more active on the CFA subreddit. Anyhows. This thread is hilarious. I’m a first-time taker, 2 boxer, and while I’m superstitious and won’t say “I did well, confident of passing”, I’ll just say that 'gun to my head, I’d tell you I passed". So in following this thread, there’s a lot of interesting theories and hypotheses. The thing that I believe should debunk all of them is that THEY’RE STILL SETTING THE MPS. Even they literally don’t know who passed or failed yet. Having said that, and while it may sound counter-intuitive, I’m honoured to be in the same group as Flashback, Viraj, Onward, Dubinko and all these super-intelligent guys/gals. Hell, that’s the group I would’ve chosen in a vacuum, potential ‘tells’ be damned. So you know what guys, if we fail, we fail! life goes on, we’ll bang our heads wondering what happened and gear up to go again. But as others have said, I’m very comfortable to be in that group and not the 1-box group. Time will tell what it all means, if anything.
yeah maybe it’s a reverse tell because i’m one of the dummies. struggled mightily on the morning section.
Same situation also, first time Level III taker, had just one box when i did not apply, then i applied and withdrew my application, and now i have 2 boxes. I don’t think this is a tell sign.

If you apply and withdraw and continue to see “Apply for 2018 Scholarship”, is that a fail under the theory?
