Cute… I got the same kind of enjoyment reading this story as I get from watching Lifetime Network movies. No better guilty pleasure than other people’s problems that will most likely never apply to you.(even though they should)
My wife is crazy about being punctual for absolutely everything. So a friend says “head over to ours for a drink before we go out, say about 7” and her brain hears “you must be there for 7 or your entire family will die.” We’re friends with a couple that are 30-40 mins late for everything and it pisses her off so much it puts her in a bad mood.
I mean there’s different standards (from what I’ve observed) depending on the particular engagement.
You should never be late for a meeting. With a party at someone’s house though? If it starts at 8 and you get there at 8 I would expect you to be the only people there. It’s not hours later like I’ve read in some other countries, but fashionably late is a thing and you kind of look like a herb if you show up right on time for something like that.
I find it annoying too, which is why when I’m 15 minutes early, I work on something else in the parking lot or lobby until a few minutes before the meeting.
^ we had a guy show up like ~20 minutes early a few months ago and our office manager wasn’t here so we had to go let him in and he just sat in the conference room. But I don’t get it, we have a Starbucks right by our building, go wait there if you’re that early
Americans are known for being late? Americans are known for not getting anything done? Are you fvcking serious? Have you worked with Europe/Latin America?
