brain teaser

You are captured by a tribal chieftain. He poses you a problem on which your life depends. He presents three leather cups. One contains two blue pebbles, another two yellow pebbles and the third has one blue and one yellow. Each is marked. One cup is “BB”, the next “YY” and the third “YB”.The chieftain says they are all marked incorrectly. He says you may choose one pebble, blindfolded from any cup you choose. Then, when you look at the pebble, you must tell him what pebbles are in what cups - or you die. What do you do?

Since all cups are marked incorrectly, they can only be marked in two possible ways: What a cup contains: BB, YB, YY Possible mark 1 (same order): YB, YY, BB Possible mark 2 (same order): YY, BB, YB So the solution is to get one from what is marked as YB, if it’s yellow, then the result is like this: YB(mark)-YY(contains), BB-YB, YY-BB. If it’s blue, then the result is YB-BB, YY-YB, BB-YY

The infamous Pirate Game. This puzzle is really hard, props to anyone who acutually solved it on their own The Game There are five rational pirates, A, B, C, D and E. They find 100 gold coins. They must decide how to distribute them. The Pirates have a strict order of seniority: A is superior to B, who is superior to C, who is superior to D, who is superior to E. The Pirate world’s rules of distribution are thus: that the most senior pirate should propose a distribution of coins. The pirates, including the proposer, then vote on whether to accept this distribution. If the proposed allocation is approved by a majority or a tie vote, it happens. If not, the proposer is thrown overboard from the pirate ship and dies, and the next most senior pirate makes a new proposal to begin the system again. Pirates base their decisions on three factors. First of all, each pirate wants to survive. Secondly, each pirate wants to maximize the amount of gold coins he receives. Thirdly, each pirate would prefer to throw another overboard, if all other results would otherwise be equal.

Pirate A - most senior - 98 coins B - 1 coin C - 1 coin. D - 0 coins E - 0 coins B and C know that if they reject this, eventually they will be pushed overboard (D and E will want to maximize their take, and would have the majority or “tie” votes to do so). With this, the majority will approve (A B and C). My thoughts.

There are two islands in the ocean and a Giant stands in the middle of them. He is not a good Giant. He doesnt pay much attention to the people who live on the islands but when he sees them near him trying to go to the other island, he picks their ship up and puts it back on their island. How do they sail from one island to the other?

Wrong but on the right track

Start sailing to the other island, then before the giant notices, start sailing back. So when the giant sees them, the giant think they are trying to get to the island where they are from and he will pick them up and put them where they wanted to go.

Sail all the way around the world to get to the other island so they never have to cross the giant. Duh.

pirate one was posted here earlier, I remember it haha

not to start hogging the answers, but how’s this? 1)just sail around the giant? he can only reach so far. 2)earth is round, sail the other way around. or, 3)spray the salt water in his eyes while you are still on the island. if he can’t see them, he can’t stop them

Another try at the gold coins. This is what the natural progression would be. A - no matter what he proposes, he’ll be thrown overboard B - same here. C 99 D 1 - D has no say in this. Either he accepts this, or E votes against whatever he says and he gets thrown overboard as well. E 0 But wait, back up. A knows that B and E will eventually get nothing, so he does it like this and gets the majority vote. A - 99 B - 1 C - 0 D - 0 E - 1 If this isn’t right, I give up.

I think you read the rules wrong. Also you answer doesn’t add up to 100

my bad, 98, 1 and 1

Then you can’t see the YB cup to take it out of there.

The gold question doesn’t have a question, what is the goal
