When he started to speak at 10 Eastern today, Dow was up 183 points. By the time he is done 4-5 minutes later, the Dow free fell and was only up by only 100 points. When the president speaks, the markets listen…
he is a confidence builder
Yep, because the collapse of the world financial markets as well as a European and North American recession, as well as the Russian stock market collapse—and Hurricanes Ike and Gustav presumably—are Bush’s fault. And cancer and AIDS.
You forgot Georgia

thats what you get for electing a sarah palin in coat and tie.
Joey, how? Explain. How is Bush responsible for essentially a housing bubble that has directly caused a compounding snowball effect that has caused a collapse in financials. How is a severe German recession linked to Bush? Maybe America, but what BUSH policies—not decades-long American policies, but BUSH policies—are responsible for it?? For my own knowledge, please indulge me.
FYI, your assertion about funding for cancer and AIDS research is fallacious. Bush didn’t veto a bill until 2007 and, to my knowledge, hasn’t vetoed a spending appropriations bill in his entire tenure.
Bush’s biggest mistake (obviously) was failing to repeal Clinton’s Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
kent - take off your political affiliation lapel pin and judge the man on individual merit. forget that he’s a republican or democrat - just judge his intelligence, accomplishments. the attacks on sarah palin are for the same reason - a two bit small time mayor gubner wants to rule the free world??! we don’t want her and her inadequacy for the role. we want a real leader who can take good decisions and carry EVERYONE - regardless of social, political, religious beliefs - forward with them.

Someone who wants to make government cool again? Fish, what country do you pay taxes in?
Rouhfish, are you serious? You’re the one making petty attacks on people. May I add, much to my dismay, Bush didn’t veto any spending bills. I’m not a Bush cheerleader—but you, along with everyone on this board, has Bush Derangement Syndrome. I just want to know WHAT BUSH DID—for my own knowledge that I might understand what’s going on and how to avoid it in the future—to cause the world to start to crumble. I simply want some facts. Does that make me a partisan?
for the first time ever, i find myself agreeing with kkent I would love to know exactly what bush policies or actions have directly led to the current financial situation. And I’m not trying to be cute or argumentative. I really am just curious.
kkent Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > you, along with > everyone on this board, has Bush Derangement > Syndrome. along with the vast majority of human beings on this planet, i might add. but, as you say, perhaps the vast majority is delusional and deranged. and you guys have it right - its certainly possible, but not probable.
Dude, just give me some facts! I bet you there are dozens of decades old bad policies that the US Gov’t is responsible for that has caused this crisis. America isn’t perfect. But what did BUSH do? Why has Europe been in a recession for a few months now? Why is Russia on the verge of financial collapse? What did Bush do? I just want to know—I don’t care about beating people over the head. I just want to learn the facts. I work at a GSE—yes, I work at a GSE—and can tell you that Bush isn’t responsible for my incompetent VP.
He spent like a drunken sailor and cut taxes, which, along with Greenspan’s rate cuts, completely overheated the economy; and now we’re paying for it. There was too much green in the system – if it wasn’t housing it would be something else (too bad it wasn’t alternative energy, but I guess I won’t mind moving into a mcmansion for 400k).
Just bring Bill Clinton back… He is socially liberal. But fiscally, he is as conservative and long-term vision as anyone you can find.
What would it have looked like if Bush hadn’t increased spending after 9/11?
TJR, Ok, so you’re saying government spending and tax cuts have caused the global economy to implode? I don’t necessarily agree, but at least that’s something hard rather than Bush is bad. Thank you.
I think it is because Bush choked on the pretzel. President choking on pretzels is highly correlated with problems of this world.
