CFA designation question

Two questions from Study Session 1:

  1. Passed level 2 but did not register for Level 3. Can the person use the following on his resume: “Passed Level II of the CFA exam”

  2. Passed level 3 and got CFA charter. After some years, the person did not pay membership dues. Can the person use the following on his resume: “Passed all three levels of the CFA Program”, Can he add the following “Used to be CFA charter holder”.

Thanks!

As long as you’re stating a fact and not a lie then you’re good.

That sounds like his use of the CFA designation was suspended or revoked.

#NOTrecommended

Agreed, not recommended, I like the following:

Was awarded the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Designation on DD, MMM, YYYY

Accurate and don’t need to show whether you’re a paid up member or not.

(I took the wording verbatim from my charter)

While this statement may be factually correct, it may also be considered misleading…, if you don’t indicate that your right to use the charter has been revoked…, if infact it had been revoked or suspended.

It also depends on the context. Are you applying for a role that requires the CFA Charter?

If you make such a statement, but then you not using the CFA after your name…, it starts to look like something is amiss.

It’s always better to be straight-forward and honest.
