CFAI EOCs vs. Exam

For those who have been through the L2 exam already, how would you compare the actual exam to the CFAI EOCs in terms of difficulty and length of problem sets?

I have just finished FRA + CF + Derivatives + PM EOCs with decent scores over all. Can I feel confident at this point?

At the begining of each book, they say that EOC are based on previous examinations.

i think the closest r the practice tests n mock…EOCs, Schweser n Elan questions r not th hard…do the practice tests n mocks.

Where can I find more practice questions?

Don’t think Qbank would be good for L2 as it was for L1.

I’ll be doing practice exams instead.

The questions on the CFAI website is also very handy.

Go to the CFAI’s website, log in, click 'CFA" under the “Program” tab. You will see the “Candidate Resources” in the left panel. There are assessment questions for each topic. I find them very helpful.

@Mr. Smart: Do you mean Schweser practice exams? I have not done any of them but my friends who passed last June said the questions there were not very relevant with the CFAI’s exam/mock styles. The plus point I think Schweser questions are very calculation-based which should be expected by level 2 candidates this.

I think it can be justified to say the EOCs may be the same, though I haven’t sat the exam yet, but the reason being is that when you do the EOCs usually they are right after you read the readings/within weeks of doing the study session.

Fast forward a few months and all that fresh material you read in past would be pretty difficult to pull back up fresh in your mind, thus making the EOCs more difficult. (I realize this when I go back and review the questions I already did and say to myself “How did I get that right when I was doing them but can’t figure them out now”?)

pass rates would be in the 80s if the exam was like the EOCs.

Don’t be ignorant, no it wouldn’t. You think it would be in the 80’s because you most likely read the material and then immediately do the EOCs.

The EOCs are not as difficult as the Mock Questions will be, which is mostly in line with what to expect on the exam, but they are certainly a better test than something like Schweser or QBank. So, for those of us who do not want to waste a CFAI mock early in our studies, doing the EOC is the next best thing.

Are they easier? Yes. Would the pass rate be 80? No.

I know you are probably quite fed up with people telling you L2 is much much harder than L1… but really.

Do you know this because you’ve taken L2 and failed before? I’m not sure your point here.

the passing score is under 63%.

certainly 80% of people would beat that if they took the EOCs directly after the exam.

anyway, you need to do more mocks. don’t discount the qbanks, pluging and chugging is still a part of the exam.

(band 8 last year)

In no way do I think the EOCs are identical to the exam itself. I think they are the next best thing after Mock Exams. I haven’t really found the qbank to be very useful, but perhaps I’ll adjust to nail down the concepts (easy and intermidate). The advance questions seem to be almost too cumbersome for my liking

“the passing score is under 63%”

I read through a thread making this claim last august but I dont think his math was correct (http://www.analystforum.com/forums/cfa-forums/cfa-level-ii-forum/91335196)

The results he uses as a ceiling are as follows:

Topic|#Q|Score|Max Alternative Investments|6|<=50%|3 Corporate Finance|12|>70%|12 Derivatives|12|<=50%|6 Economics|6|51%-70%|4 Equity Investments|24|>70%|24 Ethical & Professional Standards|12|>70%|12 Financial Reporting & Analysis|24|51%-70%|16 Fixed Income Investments|6|51%-70%|4 Portfolio Management|12|51%-70%|8 Quantitative Methods|6|<=50%|3

Looks like the ceiling imposed by this result is 77% unless I did something wrong here.

Edit: ok that table isnt working. Im seeing 92/120 possible. Looked closer, the score was pasted in a crappy way and it looks like all of his >70 sections were incorrectly counted as middle bracket
