Smearing is damaging someone’s reputation using false accusations. As far as I know, any info about HRC or the DNC from the email hacking has never been confirmed to be false.

If I have time I’ll try to dig up the article, but it’s a misconception that Trump talks about Russia. Others around him may, but excluding saying they had nothing to do with the election, he very rarely says anything about Russia.
It’s not just direct mentions of Russia. I’m including things like his interview with Bill O’Reily, where he asked if the USA was so innocent. Of course we aren’t, but this is the kind of stuff Russia has been telling their people for a while. It fits in perfectly with their narrative. I have no reason to believe Trump is doing this on purpose, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia isn’t trying to encourage this sort of stuff. I think several of Putin’s statements (talking about the transcript of Oval, patriotic hackers, etc) are meant to put our media in disarray, helping create more material in their propaganda. I personally believe Putin is very happy how Russia is mentioned every other article, because it makes them seem more powerful than they are to the world and Russians.
