Working in corporate America is not all dat different from growing up in the hood. Here are a few expamples.
Heirarchy. In the corporate world, prestige rests on heirarchy. Those with the most cred get the most respect. People in the hood who did time incarcarated get the most cred. People in corp USA get cred with more degrees, even U of P MBA.
Silence. Growing up in the hood, I learned the code of silence in a hurry. I’ve found that it comes in handy in corporate USA too. Remember my homies, the walls have ears. No matter how tight you are with your cubemate, keep your opinions to yourself, stfu and do your job. You may utter your boss is an @s$hole just one time, and they will catch wind of it.
Snitches. I’m baffled at the number of snitches who will backstab you at the cost of an extra value meal. If it were in my hood, dey’d be gettin shanked.
Thieves. People steal each others lunches, wt fking f. A sign was on the refridgerator that said, “To the person who stole my turkey sandwhich, I hope you choked!” Much like the hood, niggazz be pilferin from one another.
Frontin’. Nuff said. I can’t stand superficial people.
Mean Muggin. What I do to the bean countin cpas taking their sweet @ss time at the coffee maker. Much like in the hood, you alwayz mean mugg those who roll in the other crew.
I could go on. But on the realz, there ain’t much differnce between slangin on the hood and M&Ain on the buyside.
hahah!!! well said. While I don’t related to the ‘hood’, I can understand what you’re getting at… I fully agree with everything you said. You’ve really got to be careful what you say around the office…i like to talk alot, and sometimes talk about ‘inappropriate subjects’, so i really need to work on that and just STFU…I just don’t want to be one of the lame guys just sitting at their desk all day… i need some social aspect.
I’m so freakin tired of the corporate work place. - Upper-management can talk sh!t about lower level workers but lower level workers can’t talk sh!t about bosses. - Pretty girls in the office get special treatment - You never know who will backstab or talk shit behind you at anytime - People group up in cliches and give special treatment to there friends - Girls over 30 being jealous at the younger girls in the office - People at the top don’t think they need to earn respect - Management complain about the lack of loyalty but they never think that they have to earn the loyalty from there workers
Loyalty! In the hood, people used to mean what the said and say what they mean. In corp USA, the boss who says your job is secure won’t hesitate to drop your ass if it means he may lose >$1 of his bonus. Females. I left the corporate hoes out since that is a thread in it’s own. For whatever reason, females have this ‘one-upmanship’ like guys do, except they are passive aggressive about it. It happens everywhere, but primarily at work and at the bars. My boys and I are like band of brothas. Girls are cliquy only until they can go prisoners dilemma on their friends and sleep with hot guy at the bar, get a promotion, or have skankier heels. I just don’t get it. Don’t even think of pimpin game at work. Das just disaster with a capital D son! I wish we lived in a more traditonal society where women reclaimed their place in the kitchen as a full time homemaker. Just sayin. I went from the mean streets of the ghetto to the cut throat cube world of corporate america. If only more brothas knew how transferable the gang mentality was they could surly rise up. Most of corporate america is filled with backstabbing two faced brown nosen I went to private school trust fund yuppies who don’t care about anyone but themselves. It ain’t right. Rant over. I’m going to blaze a blunt.
I grew up around and involved in gangs and the drug trade, from that experience i know that; A) youre full of shit and trolling and not even being very funny B) its nothing to glorify C) that lifestyle and mentality does not lead to long term success or happiness
