Daj

Since I no longer have a job at this time either, I’m curious how you spend most of your day. Aside from cruising job boards, do you have anything else that you do to pass the time? I’m planning on getting the WSP once Level 1 is done and I’m retaking the GMAT on Nov 3rd. Plenty of time will be devoted to studying, but besides that I’m at a loss of what else to do.

But I can answer your question…I spent my time making phone calls, trading, job boards, AF board, reading everything related Wall Street (mags, websites, newspapers), building models, reading sell side reports, talking to people on buy side, gym, CFA study, CAIA study, reading investment books, watching red sox, beer drinking, watching movies to inspire me (like CASINO and anything related to the pursuit of power and wealth)… ALSO - wtf!!! this is kinda a weird thread to start…but I will assume you were asking seriously > I’m planning on getting the WSP once Level 1 is > done and I’m retaking the GMAT on Nov 3rd. Sorry man, I just have no idea what to do. I’ve had a job since I was 15 and in most cases 2 jobs. Have NO job is just not anything I’m used to. So, I’m looking for a good way to structure my day that does not involve watching reruns of Bevis and Butthead.

Start day trading and hit the gym. crush the GMAT and you will feel better. Shut that stupid Beavis crap off, the only TV I had one was my panels: bloomberg on one, CNBC on the other. even when you are not working you have to pretend you are. that is how I got by, making models, pitching stocks to people on the phone or email, just living the business. I still have unemployed MBA buddies and they are goofing around on X box or barely trying to network…that is clown behavior, we are not clowns. I have a white board in my pit that lists my goals. I keep looking at em everyday until I cross em off. Buy a damn whiteboard at Staples for 20 bux. Also, since you ARE going to b school (act as if, you want Darden, make it happen!!! stop talking to me and go to starbucks and bang out an essay right now, then rip it up and do it again), YOU PROBABLY DONT WANT TO WORK NOW. Those extra 6 months on your resume may not make a big difference. your core exp you already have, I would use the time to kill GMAT and CFA, etc…what level you on for CFA, dude? that is all i got for you now, im going to get coffee and go look at college girls while ostensibly reading SEC filings.

I just turned 25. Apps are nearly done, final essay runthrough is Monday with an editor I know. Thanks for the help. I think I’ll be able to structure my day with most of it revolving around GMAT/CFA Level 1 (retake) and reading other financial books and periodicals. Also I’m in touch with my network and most of them are eager to help me with finding a job. I plan to also get in excellent shape with working out at the gym. Congratulations on getting a job though. What offer did you end up taking?

And at night, daj224 spends his time haunting me in my nightmares.

Daj, can you talk more about WSP. i’m debating whether to do it or not. How many hours would it take for someone with a finance education and experience but without modelling experience? Is the program done on Excel and if so, what version?

Will it work on Excel 2007? That is the version I have since I have Vista.

Congo Daj on the new gig! trader - WSP is a practical version of CFA. All what we have learnt in CFA is put to good practical use. digger - I have Windows Vista and Excel 2007, the spreadsheets seem to work well. They also have a laminated Excel codes for 2003 and 2007 in the package included.

Daj, congrats! whats the job man??? when do you start?
