David Einhorn Interview

Thank you!

Indeed, very interesting.

Charlie Rose = best in the business.

Einhorn’s voice kills me.

Einhorn sounds a bit…well…hmm…girly…

he is still my hero

The last 2 minutes of the interview was particularly insightful when he talks about the Fed’s 75 basis point surprise decrease in Jan 08. Mr. Arabia, did you have a chance to listen to the Lang & O’Leary exchange yesterday? Two interesting tidbits for you: 1) She is married 2) Kevin has visited her home several times (no word though if they were booty calls).

I was surprised with the quality of Charlie’s questions and responses. He appeared to know what he was talking about, except where he segued away from Einhorns “Better Ipod” metaphor to say, “Apple is a company you like right?” Or maybe Einhorn’s “Better Ipod” metaphor being deflationary was convoluted and Chuck was steering him into safer waters.

Yah we was losing me on that little analogy.

he looks like an avatar character

Solid stuff. Thanks for sharing. Certainly refreshing to see this over the political junk thats flooded the forums.

he’s very cute this Dave Einhorn guy.

Would a guy with a political science degree and no MBA or graduate finance degree have much of a chance of breaking into these business these days?

Einhorn and Finkle

A lot of successful people in this business have only a BA or BS in an unrelated field with no MBA or CFA. This whole MBA or die thing takes on an unprecedented life of its own on this forum. The reality does not match the fear here. Ultimately, if you are good, finance is one of the best fields in the world for writing your own ticket.

I bet it’s much less likely to happen today than it was 10 years ago and even less likely than it was 20 years ago. bromion Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > murders&executions Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Would a guy with a political science degree and > no > > MBA or graduate finance degree have much of a > > chance of breaking into these business these > days? > > A lot of successful people in this business have > only a BA or BS in an unrelated field with no MBA > or CFA. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/16/business/16mba.html?pagewanted=1 a bit dated but still relevant

It’s less likely today because of the recession (which makes it harder for everyone), but that’s all. If you normalized for that, it would probably be the same as 10 years ago.

Yes, a lot of successful people do have only a BS or BA in non-finance. But they were able to enter finance in a favorable economic environment years ago when competition wasn’t bad. This makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. We had a HUGE upsurge in finance grads, a HUGE collapse in finance jobs, tons of experienced people looking for jobs willing to trade down for them, and massive surges in people getting an MBA or CFA thinking it gives them “an edge”. Demand is vastly overpowering available job openings. Now try to get into a top finance position with a BS with a NON-Finance degree. good luck.
