Much respect to those who didnt pass, I wanna say that in some way we are with you and behind you for your next try, do not despair, you are strong for taking it in, dont know what I would have done if I didnt pass. That blows. Must’ve been very close. Seeing the other results I’m a little surprised one lousy section would tank you when everything else looked good. Yeah FSA is the biggest section but 8 sections of 70+, I would have guessed balanced it. ramasre Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Result: Fail > Band: 10 > Prepared for just about 8 weeks. >70% in all > sections except Economics(51-70) and FSA (<50) > > I thought the exam was much easier than I had > expected it would be. > I wish I had worked harder on FSA, that was my > deal breaker. FSA and Ethics is pretty much all I studied the last couple weeks…good that did me. I am going to take it a third time in June, but I feel like quite the idiot after seeing all these passes. I’ve taken it the last two Decembers, which seem to be the hardest couple tests in awhile…can I please catch a fn break.

Hadnt see the Ethics portion until the morning of the exam… So… considering all that, I think I didnt do too bad… I will start preparing for the June exam tonite! I am an engineer and got interested in finance while doing a part-time MBA. Good luck to those retaking in June… I will be frequenting AF with questions/doubts/advice…
I failed band 10 last time, and just did all of the schweser qbank because reading all that crap wasted too much time the first time. Not a pretty pass, but don’t care. I work in derivatives and corporate finance was one of my strongest areas in practice. Almost a little embarrasing! I agree with all the comments on the cfa website. I tried every 2 minutes from 9am until 10:30am when I finally got it. How could their servers not support the traffic!!! Time to try find the focus to get rolling on level 2. It has to be done… waiting a year and a half just isn’t an option. Hopefully it comes in the next couple of days.

Still failed despite my Ethics score, and I nailed ethics in my study so I’m assuming it was a good score… although I was expecting a fail as I didn’t start studying til October. onwards and upwards guys. Good luck for Lvl 2.
Pass!! I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to. I only did CFAI texts but I might try schweser for L 2 since it was like pulling teeth reading the CFAI text. And yes, I read every page of CFAI and did nearly all of EOC

I agree that that people who failed don’t have much incentinve to post. The pass rate on the forum is like 80%! I passed with above 70 in all. See everyone in the level II forum for June!
Passed. all above 70. Huge Thanks for everyones advice and support on AF, all very usefull and much appreciated! Good Luck for Level 2 guys!
Passed! Just a piece of advice to all of you that will take the Level 1. Please be tactical and strategic in your study. That simply means focusing more on the areas with bigger weights such as FRA, Ethics, Quantative and Equity/Fixed Income and you are mostly likely to pass. Again, do yourself good by rejecting negative information/news (e.g CFA exam is too difficult, many people fail the exam, you can’t make it dude) that will spur up fear in you. People are different, hence, destines vary. No fear guys! Just be positive and believe you can pass it as long as you do your part by studying diligently. Above all, understand there is NOTHING impossible with God. I went with God and it worked out perfectly for me. I wish you guys all the best, and for the guys who passed, we will see in L2 forum.
I passed with a > 70% in all sections. This is my first attempt. I am an Engineer by profession.

I took it in June '09 and got Band 10, passing 5 and “midding” 5, which is the same this go around. Looking at both results I need to work on Ethics and Quant, as those I have yet to pass both times. Its a shame though because on EVERY practice exam I took (12 of em) I never got below 70% on Ethics, and Quant was one of my better ones as well. I had thought the FRA on Dec '09 test was rather easy, but the Economics and Ethics were rather very difficult. I got a 82% on the mock am compared to a 68% in June. I thought I was prepared and ready to pass, but it looks like I did worse. Anyways I’m not going to give up because I’ve already invested this much time into the program and I feel like it does provide a strong set of knowledge. I also think this time around I still have retained most of the material. I’ll just hope CFA eases up on the pass rate because 34% is rather ridiculous. I saw somewhere the pass rate was 34% in all different regions, and therefore however their grading system works it seems like they wanted to keep the pass rate lower this time. Also I hope anyone saying the 3 answer choice system is any easier has been proved wrong. I cannot really complain about the CFA’s pass rates its my fault for not passing, but my only gripe is that they spend 2 months to get our results ready and we barely learn anything from them. I could have been studying for level 1 again (or level 2) much sooner, but now its already February.
You’re pretty close though to passing. You’ll kill it in June.
Guys, I passed all sections with >70%, and I can honestly say that the test was straight from CFAI texts. I read all the books and used Schweser for revision. To all those who will re-take or intend to take the exam, seriously, just read the books and I you will have a better than 50% chance of passing the exam. Most of the questions were straight from the text. Granted the answers were in a sentence or two but once you understood the big ideas, you could answer most of the questions. Even though I won’t take level II this June (preparing for the GMAT), I would use the same strategy. Just read the books.

I’m in the same place as novacfa, except I failed in band 6. I studied for 5 months, 5 nights per week and had the week before the exam off for review. I’m disappointed, but I basically felt like I failed when I walked out of the exam, because I also wanted to curl up in a fetal position during the second half (Well, I knew I passed Ethics b/c that’s my strong area!) I still want to re-take it (in June), but obviously I need to re-adjust my study habits. I used Schweser almost solely, with CFAI texts when I didn’t understand something or wanted more clarification. I did about 2,000 Qbank questions, all of Schweser Practice Exams Vol I, CFAI sample/mock exams and all CFAI EOC questions. I’m thinking this time I will use CFAI texts ONLY? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Level 1: Fail The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. I would like to thank the 2009 Schweser Video series for this passing score. I think that contributed the most. My plan was to start early (a good 10 months). I read the Schweser book, watched the corresponding videos, then did the corresponding Schweser QBank questions. I answered about 3,000 QBank questions. I did several full practice tests before the exam and re-watched the whole video series. That’s how I passed. Total immersion. I plan the same strategy for L2.
