How much do you guys think he makes annually? My boss and I were arguing about it… my guess: 250k his guess: 500k
Over $1 million. I only say that b/c I know an anchorwoman for a local Philadelphia news station that makes $700,000.
I found this article from 2000 for comparison’s sakes. I would assume that 2008 salaries are much higher…for example, Katie Couric’s now at $15 million and Brian Williams is at $10 million. What do the leading television and print journalists earn? Such a question is considered tasteless or “nobody’s business”—therefore it must be important. Here’s a brief survey, culled from a number of sources (principally the May 1999 issue of Brill’s Content). At the top of the list (aside from arch-reactionary radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and “entertainment” personalities such as the vile Howard Stern or interviewer Barbara Walters) sit the major networks’ anchors. Peter Jennings of ABC makes in the area of $9 million a year; NBC’s Tom Brokaw pulls in approximately $7 million; CBS’s Dan Rather, the same. Other media stars include Ted Koppel of ABC’s Nightline, who earns some $8 million annually, and Diane Sawyer of the network’s Good Morning America, whose salary is $7 million. ABC’s chief White House correspondent Sam Donaldson makes in the range of $3-3.5 million; the network’s substitute anchor, Forrest Sawyer, takes in $2.5 million a year. Don Hewitt, producer of CBS’s 60 Minutes, earns $4-5 million; the same program’s Mike Wallace, $3 million. Lesley Stahl, also of 60 Minutes, reportedly makes $1.75 million, Bob Schieffer, CBS’s chief Washington correspondent and moderator of Face the Nation, $1.5 million. At NBC, Katie Couric, coanchor of NBC Today, rakes in $7 million a year, while her cohost, Matt Lauer, earns a mere $2.5 million. In 1998 Jane Pauley signed a five-year deal at NBC for $5.5 million a year. Lisa Myers, NBC’s Washington correspondent and one of the chief Clinton persecutors, makes $375,000 annually. Larry King of CNN earns $7 million in salary; Bernard Shaw, also of CNN, $1.1 million; and Jeff Greenfield, CNN senior analyst, the same. Christiane Amanpour’s pay is $2 million a year. At Fox, Brit Hume pulls in one million dollars a year, while Bill O’Reilly makes slightly less. MSNBC’s Brian Williams makes $2 million annually.

Yes, he definitely makes more than a million. He is a staple on CNBC and an overall sharp guy, probably the best anchor they have. That said, these guys are WAAAAAAY over paid for what they produce. Most of them are simply reading off a teleprompter, but if they’re good looking enough (definitely true for women) and have the right pedigree, they make high six figures or into the seven figures, even on smaller market stations.
I used to think Ratigan was a major @sshole but the more I watch him the funnier he seems to me, especially when he stumbles over his lines (which is often) and then says something stupid on purpose to make up for it.
Probably around 500-750k. He is a douche though, I don’t like any of the shows he is on. I found it funny how he got into tv too, ny times put it this way: “He moved to New York City and took a job as a parking garage investigator, responsible for ensuring that employees weren’t stealing from the owners. But fate had other plans for him. He was staying with a friend who was dating Susan Bloomberg, the former wife of Michael R. Bloomberg, the future mayor. Ms. Bloomberg suggested Mr. Ratigan work for her ex-husband at Bloomberg L.P., the financial information company.”
Hmmm, then how does that leave Maria Bartiromo? Oh man, that voice… >, but if they’re good looking enough > (definitely true for women) and have the right > pedigree, they make high six figures or into the > seven figures, even on smaller market stations.
I used to see Maria all the time when I was a trader at my old firm. She is very short and bottom-heavy in person. Friendly though.
I find her annoying. I like some of the other CNBC girls. The one who hosts Bloomberg mornings is better. And Amanda Lang on BNN Canada is cute too.

Oh > man, that voice… I can’t understand why she made it, because it’s not looks. For a finance girl, her “valuation” is pretty high (pro forma adjusted), but her GAAP number is a lot lower – maybe a 6, 7 at best. She either knows the right people or actually has a lot of investigative talent. The real tragedy on CNBC though is Erin Burnett. What a joke. Not attractive at all, no talent whatsoever, complete btch. My vote goes to Trish Ragen. Now that is talent!
I want Amanda Drury back (the Auzzie).
What about Larry Kudlow, the ambassador of capitalism?
Auzzie, Auzzie, Auzzie…
Come on, stop trading!!
Bob Pisani’s the opposite of Maria, he does a good job of reporting on tv but in person he is not really a nice guy.
I’m just curious how many journalist actually know anything about finance, economics investments and securities markets. Some of them just seem like market cheerleaders with a good command of the lingo, but not much more than a superficial understanding of the fundamental theories, practical applications, and economic realities behind the stories they report.
Maria had ties to someone, who was that? Good gossip a year ago I think. And then there is Suze, I would guess she makes more on her books.

They know a lot! Erin and Trish both worked for Goldman Sachs in their IB division. Ron Insana went on to start a hedge fund. Bill Griffith is a very sharp guy.
Maria Bartiromo is like a 15 in blackjack. Not sure if I’d hit it or not.
Yeah, but none of them know more than Farley…
