Ethics - good one

A broker and CFA charterholder has been arrested for the crime of murder. Which, if any, of the following could result in the member being summarily suspended from using the CFA designation? A) All of the results listed here. B) If he is convicted of the crime only. C) Either being convicted or pleading guilty to the crime. D) He is acquitted of the crime, but he is barred from continuing to work in the investment industry.

A ? this is a weird one

i think if you get arrested at all, you are done, unless you get arrested for a public/political demonstration

if the glove dont fit you must aquit!

I’d say D:)

But you may not be able to carry those three letters

I’d say “A” If you are arrested and subsequently acquitted, they will NOT suspend your CFA designation.

D) He is acquitted of the crime, but he is barred from continuing to work in the investment industry.

btw if it was something like theft you would probably be suspended but i don’t think that murder is an ethical issue like theft, embezzlement, etc

Seems like CFAI is policing in disguise of ethics and stds

@kochunni69: i saw this in one of my books, but forgot which one. what was the answer that the book gave?

C

Answer is A. But I was wondering why would he loose the charter even after the acquital. So, the DA can make a case against you and prosicute and you are done with the CFA title and the job in the investment industry.

seems arbitrary and capricious!

oh wait, you’re still barred from operating in the investment industry, so it kind of makes sense note to self: murder conviction = lose charter

:))

Boss… D is not talking about conviction. it says, you are going to loose even if you are not convicted.

i think it’s pretty safe to assume that if you are barred from continuing to work in the investment industry then you must have violated at least a couple of professional standards in fact, i remember when i was registering for the exam one of the questions was whether or not i have ever been barred from working in the investment industry

How can we still justify CFAI punishing somebody who has been acuitted by the court of law?

Koch, acquitted but barred from working in the investment industry…barred not by CFAI, but by the court.
