For those who passed:
How many hours spent on L3 and how many attempts?
For those who passed:
How many hours spent on L3 and how many attempts?
about 30 hours to read once 30 hours of review practice exams 6 x 6 hours + 1 x 6 hr review = 42 final review 60 hours
total ~162
one attempt
So what’s your point?.. Oh wait, I see it so clearly now: you’re like a freakin’ genius and you barely broke a sweat in preparation for LIII. Somebody get this guy a medal – I already sent mine to that 23 y/o kid who passed all three levels without any experience.
(on a more serious note, good for you)
500 hours… 1st attempt
I guess I put in at least 400 hours. Probably closer to 450 hours. I started very early (November) and read the CFAI books twice, Schweser books once. I did 8 practice exams (Schweser / CFAI). I did not write my own summary or flash cards though. I felt pretty confident going into the exam, not so confident any more coming out of the morning session. Passing with 67% (40/60/80). If I can give one advise: Do the open question EOCs. I skipped them most of the time and had problems formulating sentences in the exam (not a native speaker).
Are you serious?
UMadBro?
I’m just answering the OP’s question. Level 3 material is not hard at all and there was a lot less content than Level 2. Number of formulas was considerably less, so readings were light and fast. I spent a lot more time studying for level 2 than level 3.
179 hours, first attempt. I echo the sentiments of lummy, material was easily understood and most of my time was spent doing practice exams.
@lummy- why would I be mad? I said, “good for you”…
Side note: you see, in a thread, people respond to the initial issue or question with comments – and other people can make comments about other people’s comments. Happens all the time. ThatOKbruh?
400, probably a bit over, passed on 1st attempt
read schweser once whilst making my own flash cards, did all schweser EOC, CFAI blue box and CFAI EOC during the read through. this took a lot of time. did a load of practice exams and mocks, probably 12, and spent a lot of time reviewing them, especially the CFAI ones.
day before the exam i read my flash cards cover to cover, took about 7 hours but I picked up a fair number of points doing this.
about 400.
Passed (very ugly pass) first time.
All I will say is practice writing questions ASAP (and i mean ASAP) - I started about a month before and it was very nearly not enough
around 400-450 hours. Read the CFAI materials 2 times, did all the EOC questions, including open-ended ones, did 2 mocks and lots of flash-cards. Passed first time w 72% 40/60/80 score.
Appreciate the response guys!
there seems to be a trend - 400 hrs looks like a reasonable target to aim for!
I don’t think you must aim for the number of hours… Just aim for completing the entire syllabus, being thorough and confident about it, solving about 10 years of AM and acing the PM by scoring about 80 percent in mocks… To achieve this u might need more hours or less… Can’t say…probably more…
i don’t even know how many hours I put in.
I think the focus on hours is a waste. develop a study plan that works for your way of learning and your background. as you can see, some had issues writing essays (really short answers) but some had no problem. some people have IPS background while others have other specialities.
I do think some of the people who failed who studied excessive hours seem to be all over the place on studying. My one suggestion is have one core study tool (whether it be Schweser notes, Schweser Videos, CFA Book, etc.). Everything else should complement your core.
I think the right answer to “how many hours should I study?” is “however many hours you need to master the material.” This number is different for everyone and the large range of hours you see on this thread is an example of that. Don’t cut corners or gamble on something not being tested- everything is fair game. I would much rather invest the extra hours upfront and only take the exam once, rather than throw another six months at the same material again.

Completely agree. This will not be my focus but I was just curious to see what other peoples experience has been. That’s all.
started in april with a turtles pace and a grumpy face
hardly completed about 250-300 by 7 june…and lcukily passed
NOTE:I DO NOT recommend this adventure, start early and do a lot of practice from CFAI material
I think it depends on the quality of your reading. Somebody can digest the material faster and somebody want to study more detailed for better understanding. I don’t think the hours you spent less means the guy smarter, but it only means you have good time management. I am going to spend at least 70% of time to practice questions.
