FRM Full exam November 2009 - Any takes

Hello: I am strongly thinking about taking the full FRM in November (hopefully after my L2 pass in June). Is anyone else thinking about doing this? It’s tempting to do so before it becomes a 2-parter.

I am planning to take it. Might use schweser and bionicturtle.

I am happy going for the PRM The FRM is an annuity that I’m not willing to pay CFA membership is $400 yr, CPA is about $70 (but I need CPE classes so really $300-400/yr) and so on. I can’t see the justification in spending about $1000/yr (which will only go up) just to renew certifications. That sort of money could be used for a nice week long vacation at the beach. Or after 20-40 years it’s basically paying for another degree.

I plan on taking it. But will only start after the CFA Level 2 exam.

How is bionicturtle? Do you think schweser is sufficent for quants?

I will buy both. Never used bionicturtle, but company pays for everything.

I’m currently planing FRM for November 2009. But family is already complaining about me having no time anymore

I am in too. I will drink and live like George Best for about a month after L2 and then get onto FRM.

I’m in as well. And since FRM and PRM do not matter as a title anyway, I’m happy to not pay the annual fee and leave it on my resume as ‘passed’. If an employer wants me to carry the title they’ll have to pay the annual fee for me.

BUMP Any more thoughts on this? Especially how hard will the full exam be for people with a quant background? In case we fail, will L1-FRM be offered in November 2010 or just L2-FRM? (I will be taking CFA L3 if I pass L2 in June 2010 so no FRM exam in May 2010.)

Would the core reading pack (from GARP) and the FRM Handbook, 5th edition (coming out late April) be comprehensive enough? Or do you recommend getting some supplemental help from test providers like Schweser and Bionic Turtle? I’m debating if I should stick w/ just the core reading pack + FRM Handbook to save some $, or go w/ the shorter route (but more expensive one) and use the Schweser and/or Bionic Turtle study guides…

I think maybe this has been answered before but those who have a CFA and an FRM, how tough is the FRM exam as comapred to individual CFA exams? Is it = L1, L2, L3 etc?

I passed it right after L3. The exam itself is probably harder in terms of the questions asked, but probably easier to pass since I have yet to see someone who failed the test, so it would seem that the MPS is really low. I studied a tiny fraction of what I did for any level of the CFA. No Qbank, no practice tests, no assigned readings, nothing fancy. Just straight Shweser and that’s it.

I worked on it for two month and about 2 hours per day.

You think someone with only L1 behind them can do it with NO quant/risk experience? Does anyone know if next year GARP is splitting the material into two part exam or just adding a whole new set of material?

surveyinn: splitting into 2 parts; go to their website for more detail. essentially, up to 200 questions (100 question level 1, 80 to 100 question for level 2) instead of the 140 question for the full exam this nov. the full exam will be 5 hours instead of the totaled 8 hours of both level 1 + level 2. I’ve decided to go ahead w/ this full exam before they make it two parts. Registered for it just now. Now to think of which test prep to use… maybe just schweser alone. Anybody else doing this along w/ CFA level 2 and CAIA level 2? Man, I won’t have much of a life this year then… June, Sept, then Nov exams, with about 2 months each for CAIA L2 and FRM.

L1 will help you with the introduction section:)

the pass rate is the same or very close to CFA L2. can’t understand why you say you don’t know someone that has failed. i know a few actually.
