Game of Thrones Season 6

Yeah, I was hoping he was going to bust that out at the Kingsmoot. Kinda odd he’d hold that back if they’re going to use it in the show.

I think D&D just messed up on Euron in general. Horrible casting, cutting his best part (so far), and no badass backstory.

How else would Daeny get her fleet? If Euron doesn’t show up, Yara becomes queen of the Iron Islands and they just go on raiding and raping. There’s no reason for her to offer her ships to Daeny and it’s not like she could marry off Theon to her to form an alliance.

^That would suck if they only introduced Euron to advance the Yara and Dany plotline. Such a waste…

^There is more information out there. Grrm recently read a chapter which hints at Deuron. No other reason for Euron to exist.

What would Daeny have to gain from marrying Euron?

Late to the party, but I agree with all of this. I figure Cercei will likely die the way Aerys did, defending King’s Landing against Dany. The city will likely turn against her, so she may die before Dany can do it herself.

That said, I liked her new outfit. It’s a bit Michael Jackson, but it’s a lot sexier on a woman.

She is the logical choice for ruler of King’s landing now, since all of the heirs of Robert Baratheon are dead, as are Robert’s brothers and (except for Gendry, who hasn’t been seen in ages) all the bastards. So it means there are tons of cousins everywhere that might be next in line. Cercei has the advantage of being on the scene (a bit like Henry IV, who didn’t have a strong claim, but happened to be around with an army). But the moment Dany comes sailing in, that likely will be the stronger claim anyway, and the city hates Cersei anyway.

It is interesting to wonder what is going through Cersei’s mind now. Her kids were the point where she was most human. Now they are gone, what’s left? Basically desire to wreak revenge on all her enemies. So it is not too surprising that revenge consumes her and she ends up not being much different from the Mad King. (Though, to her credit, she just blew up the Sept and a ton of people, rather than the whole city).

I was a little surprised that they killed off Margery and family all at once. Even if she had managed to leave the great Sept, it was probably too late, given the area of destruction.

Those who wanted to see the Sparrows’ demise got their wish. I must admit it was a cool episode.

Not sure why they had to kill Pycelle that way. I guess it’s because he had the keys to the Wildfire.

As for Jon, I liked the irony of him being proclaimed King in the North just as it’s revealed that he’s not Ned’s son. Though he is still a Stark, and likely a Targaryian. So one interesting outcome is that he marries Dany to secure the North for the Seven Kingdoms. Targaryians like to marry each other anyway (possibly the root of the madness), so that kind of works. It also joins forces nicely for the battle against the Night King. However, it seems like too neat and tidy for a GoT ending.

I don’t think Benjen knows about Jon, but it is possible in one of two ways: 1) Ned trusted him and told him, and 2) his post-transformation into the new being that he is might offer some kind of Bran-like sight. However, I am not convinced he knows. I just think it’s possible.

If Bran makes it back to Winterfell and claims it as Ned’s trueborn male heir, then that also makes things interesting. He may say “Dude, Winterfell is mine, but you happen to be Rhaegar’s son, so King’s landing is yours by right.” That would make him the heir to the seven kingdoms, with claims similarly strong to Dany’s. They might end up having to fight it out, or decide that it’s easier to resolve by getting married, provided that Dany get’s to lie with Yara now and then for fun.

Arya’s version of Titus Andronicus was awesome. Though Arya really has become a kind of sinister character. I guess a bit like a living lady stoneheart.

Loved the last scene of Dany on her way to Westeros. Groovy stuff!

I like how enough is resolved that we can last for another year until the next season starts, yet there is enough still happening that we will be happy to see it when it comes. Well done.

I bet some of the Daynes also know of Jons parentage. Too many connections - Ashara, Wylla, Sotm. Jon may be targ by blood but the theme for him is that he is a Stark in character if not in name, so Targs like to marry each other doesn’t add up.

I wonder if Jon, and everyone else, will find out he’s a Targ if he comes out of a fire unburnt…

Nay, (in the show) it’s because Pycelle was part of the old guard who sided with the Tyrells.

In the books, it is Varys who has him killed, not Qyburn. Though the script is the same. Pycelle is already dead in his chambers, whilst it is Kevan Lannister who is summoned, under false pretense, and then killed by Varys and his “little birds.” “For the realm,” as he likes to say. Haha.

It’s in the epilogue of ADWD.

I think Benjen was working for the Undead King and brought Brann close to the wall because after Brann crosses it with the mark then the undead will be able to pass. Like what happened in the 3 eyed raven nest.

Indeed, that’s an old Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman joke. The Irishman and Scotsman being interchangeable in the punchline.

I’ve always got a Starks=Scots vibe but I think they’re more likely Northern Englishmen, all the men have Yorkshire accents, including Jon Snow whose real life accent is southern thespian.

so that kind of makes the Scots the Wildlings which would have been brilliant but their accents are varied northern english. could be worse though, Littlefinger’s accent is embarrasingly bad, especially from a good actor in a pretty large part.

At long last, episodes of GoT that were satisfying rather than harrowing. I get that the battle of the b @ stards was quite predictable in hindsight but there were a few times when I thought Jon was going to die, he’s not been the same since the resurrection and it wouldn’t have shocked me if he limped out. Even when he was beating the hell out of Ramsay and he stopped, I was half expecting Ramsay to get him somehow. It being predictable in hindsight made it unpreditable in real time for me.

I read that the CGI budget couldn’t stretch to Ghost being at the battle, it was Ghost or Mon Mon apparently.

and to finally get an episode 10 that matches 9. That first 20 minutes or so were brutal, with the shock of the huge explosion and the sheer number of characters it took out, to the relative subtlety of Tommon’s self-defenestration.

It’s interesting how the plight against the high sparrow and the frustration of that storyline has made me root for Jamie and even Cersei. And on the other side of the coin, the long laboured storylines for Dany and the anticlimactic dragon scenes have made me want there to be a final huge shock and the obvious ending of Dany becoming queen to not be the final ending. Dany was maybe just badly cast or maybe I’m just a contrary b@ stard.

Gutted that we need to wait a whole fecking year.

^ Jaime has been a pretty likeable character for quite a while now, but I have also found myself rooting for Cercei because of all the stuff with the Sparrows. I just wish she would grow her hair back. It’s obviously been long enough since her walk of shame that she could have outgrown the boy cut.

Because Jaime has become so likeable, it has me starting to agree with Palantir and others that he will be the one to kill Cercei, not Tyrion. Cercei is still on Arya’s list though, so maybe that part of the prophecy won’t come true.

so what do all you nerds do in the offseason?

Wait for The Walking Dead

The Leftovers is good too.

The Leftovers only has one season left :frowning:

Although I suppose we’re lucky we’re getting one at all, because people suck and the ratings suck for a show that’s incredible. Bah.

If you haven’t already, go back and watch Carnivale. It’s frustrating that it ended a couple seasons too early, but it’s still one of the best HBO series ever. Damn creepy too.

Edit: This insipred me to listen to the Leftover soundtrack at work. Damn it has a good musical score.

It would be interesting and the look from the wings as Cersei took the throne definitely hinted at some unrest but there was the whole speech he gave to Edmure about Cersei being his home and the similarly impassioned speech Cersei gave to little miss “confess/shame”.

I’ve not been a fan of Tyrion this season.

I’m now faced with the prospect of having to watch another series of Suits with the missus. She once asked me “which one do you prefer, Breaking Bad or Suits?” i think that would be counted as unreasonable behaviour in divorce proceedings.

I’m tempted to check out Vikings, heard good things.
