Jon just needs to walk through the fire to prove his Targaryen blood. I mean with the ease that he broke his Nightswatch vows, he probably won’t get that far.
This last season has been extremely satisfying after last season’s snooze fest. You’ve covered all the bases here already but I want to add that I am looking forward to Jon Snow on a goddamn dragon taking on the Night King.
And gringo if you haven’t seen Breaking Bad yet, you need to get on that.
For me, breaking bad is the best tv show ever made. marginally ahead of the wire and the sopranos (although I fear a 2nd watch through of the Sopranos would cast it further down my list). GoT probably nestles in the top 5 but suits has no place on anyone’s “best tv ever” list, except for my dear wife’s
Gringo - yeah generally I would say anything that’s original USA programming is poor, but I have to pause now that Mr. Robot seems to be so universally acclaimed. I need to check that out too.
Mr Robot is a good watch, I pretty much finished the whole series in 1 plane journey.
Suits is definitely entertaining but it’s not likely to go down as seminal tv, maybe I’m just pretentious. Also, my wife has a crush on mike ross and i find that wholly distressing.
You’re hung up on Jon breaking his vows, but most consider his death a release from his vows. Also, if I take your statement literally, GRRM has said multiple times Targs are not immune to fire. It’s just a Dany thing, at least at this point. In fact, several Targs died in a blaze of glory back in the day.
If Jon snow could walk through fire unharmed because he’s a targaryan, wouldn’t he have accidently discovered that at some point in his life already? Viserys is the younger brother of Raegar. He didn’t have Danerys ability
^I’m not sure being engulfed in flames is the same as having your head smothered in molten gold. Pretty sure Dany would have had a tough time with that one too.
^ If she were restrained and the gold were allowed to cover her nose and mouth, I agree she would not have fared well. I don’t think Viserys died from suffocation though and his screaming gave the impression that he found it a bit painful.
Yeah I can understand the death is a release from vows, but i felt like they (the brothers, and the northern houses) really gave him a big pass on that one. Obviously there’s a grey area with no one has ever come back from the dead but yeah. I thought that was sloppy given GRRM’s tight policies.
Don’t remember that passage but I still feel that will be how he proves his blood line in the show, when they meet in battle.
I don’t think Jon’s going to ride off to the South to fight anyone. He knows where the real war is. He’s trying to rally the North (and probably the southern houses) to fight the Others. So he’s still fighting the good fight.
And, in the books, the North never rallies behind the Boltons (anymore than they have to anyway) and are desperate for a Stark to take back the Lordship. This hasn’t translated well in the show until the five minutes of “King in the North” we got in the last episode.
No, I think Jon is in a good spot. Still fighting the Others and the North has his back.
^ Agree that Jon has no aspirations to march south. I suspect Daeny will take the south and start moving north to get the fealty of the northern families. I don’t recall the geography of Westeros, but some of the more southerly families will tell her to F-off, they only recogize the King of the North, and she’ll set her sights on Winterfell. After some contentious moments (perhaps an episode or two) where we think she might wipe Winterfell and the Starks out of existence, they’ll align to fight the White Walkers. Perhaps after a failed attempt by Littlefinger to kill them both.
^ Yeah I agree, but maybe I’m taking the oaths a bit literal, “take no lordship, own no lands etc”. Anyways I’m not complaining, I’m happy with the way the story line is progressing. Just something I felt should have repurcussions sooner or later. Case in point when he let wildings in the brothers killed him, and his uncle (Ned) killed a nights watch deserter in the first scene of the series.
I agree the breaking of vows is glossed over. Yeah he found a technicality out of it (“I died”) but he is violating the spirit of the law by leaving the night’s watch, interfering in the politics of the realm and becoming king, which is really pretty serious. Dolorous Edd recognizes that. Maybe in the books they will explore this and not in the show. OTOH if they finish off the WW’s the NW will become moot, ending everybody’s NW oaths.
As an aside, I’m disappointed to see the WWs not invade this season. Given that there’s only 13 episodes left, there may be no invasion and instead the NW will take the battle northwards.
