Today trhee Greek men shot with hunting guns (apparently those that have many little bullets) at immigrants (some of whom illigal) after telling them to get back to work and that no they wouldn’t pay them their (200 of them) 6 months due of around 150,000 for working on strawberry fields, when they said they wouldn’t and they want their money. 7 are still in hospital and thankfully not in danger of their lives. my feellings are of shame and a very hollow sensation. i feel that the illigal status of immigrants is at the heart of racism and a lot of violence that this brings. do you know of any charities anywhere in the world that help illigal immigrants, or lobby groups that support their legalisation, or other ways to help illigal immigrants (legally.)?
The Democratic party?
Fucking first issue EAD / green cards / CITZ to the legal-immigrants who are waiting in line for years now and serving top organizations like MSFT, GOOG, GS, BCS, MS, etc.
… and what makes you think the OP is talking about the US of A?
Penny are you greek american?
Check out ‘No One is Illegal’.
This is UK chapter’s page but has links to other countries’ chapters and smiliar organisations.
I am Greek / Cypriot living in Switzerland. Thanks for the link CFASniper.
Ah sorry, I get really really grumpy when I here anything about immigration and immigration reforms in the mornings especially when the morning coffee was either not strong enough (don’t prefer “roast”) or still has to kick in.
my ex was named penny and greek… sorry to discount the actual material on this thread lol
Giassou, malaka. When these poor guys make it from Bangladesh to Greece, they end up living in the same conditions but away from home and having sold most of their possessions to the people smugglers. Most of them that set on the journey don’t have any idea how f.ucked up the job situation is in Greece, and Europe in general.
As cynical as it may sound, I feel the best way to address the problem is to carry a message that objectively portaits the true economic situation in Europe, in order to discourage immigration. I think the UK has been running a negative campaign on itself for a while (basically saying, “The UK is $hit… it’s cloudy all the time, and there is no work - don’t come.”). Not sure how effective it is though and whether it reaches it’s intended audience.
This guy “Mobius Striptease” just called me an arsehole in Greek because he has a different opinion than me. Just the kind of fuck*d up biggot that runs around with a thumb up his ass gloating like he/she s the gift to mankind… straight back at you you genius!
lol i’ve always thought malaka meant something a little worse.
I dont have a different opinion than you - you were asking what can be done to help the situation with illegal immigrants and I shared my opinion about one way funds could be directed - to discourage misinformed people from giving up all of their life savings to smugglers and traveling a dangerous and often deadly journey to Europe only to find a grim situation there.
I used ‘malaka’ as ‘dude’ you touchy prude, it’s the f.ucking watercooler forum. Sorry for hurting your feelings so irrepairably.
i was aksing for ways to “help illigal immigrants”, you were probably meaning to post on a thread called “Mobius Striptease please tell us what just came in your mind”
Yeah Mobius. How dare you express your opinion on the internet.
sure, of course anyone can write what they want whereever they want even if it is largely irrelevant to the topic that has been raised. its called trolling
Yeah Mobius. The question is not how do you help people from making the mistake of leaving their home, selling all their possessions, and moving to another country only to find out that they’re going to live in the same crap conditions they gave up everything to escape from. The question is how do you help the people who have already made that mistake. You’re such a douche.
great insight higgmond no doubt all from personal experience or through research (new york post?)
How do you know the conditions are worse? From my exp the standards in Greece are blown out of proportion by the media compared to how a lot of them are actually living. Provided there are some very poor areas, the overall standards are surely better than where they are coming from.
Actually it comes from the European Court of Human Rights which ruled a couple of years ago that sending EU asylum seekers back to Greece, the EU country they originally entered, could infringe on their fundamental rights because the Greek system had become so saturated and living conditions were so poor.
