Hours

How long is your commute in Sao Paulo? I heard they are ridiculous.

I work 125 hours a week. My name is TheAliMan, and I am an offshore rig scuba diver

^Funny, I always heard you were a diver but of a different sort…

52 - 60. few hrs on the weekend every now and then

i work at a big IB in NYC. 7:30 - 6:30pm Mon - Fri. No weekends. total hours: ~ 54. my lunch consists of running downstairs to grab a sandwich and eating it in 5 mins at my desk while browsing WSJ.

6am - 5.30 pm m-f …on call around the clock

I still have yet to see one person say they average more than 60 hours a week on a regular basis. So much for that AF Teachers-Get-Paid-More-Per-Hour-Than-Finance-Slaves-Chained-To-Their-Desks theory.

9:00-5:00pm everyday. Maybe work an extra 1-2hrs a day when its busy and some weekends but only when its busy

What? Who said that?

My pay sucks though. Bonus and raise this year was depressing. I guess I am lucky to be employed though…

I only work ~55 hours- but I’d have to make 250% of what she makes (not taking into account here pension) to match here hour by hour.

Means you’re underpaid, not overworked. Seems endemic of finance people from Dallas.

Dont teachers get the summer off or at least a good deal of it? Wouldnt that easily push up the avg per hour?

Right now 60ish. Busyies 4Q and 1Q. Closer to 45 in the Spring and Summer.

I don’t think so at all- I actually got a 30% raise to move here from OC and consider myself beyond lucky to be making what I am. BUT- Its kind of hard to overcome three months off and 32 hour weeks- even if you are only putting in 50ish a week. I make more than her but not too much- she’s doing really well for an elementary teacher- smart enough to take online ‘masters’ courses to get herself into the top scales. Where I win is that I’m just starting and my potential is sky high- whereas she’s pretty darned close to the max. BUT then again- she can retire in 10 years (after 20 yrs of service) and collect a 80% pension while working another job. You also have to add in the savings she has due to the limited hours. I don’t have kids now, but when I do I’ll be paying through the wazoo to have someone watch them while she’s picking them up from school every day. I’m not arguing that she’s overpaid and that ppl in finance are suffering- just pointing out that one does have to consider the hours involved.

If I was working in finance and couldn’t outearn an elementary school teacher I would reconsider my career choice.

Ask you sister to pick up from school and daycare your future children when she’s retired collecting 80% for doing nothing. It’s family, she can’t say no being that lucky.

Oh, I do not have a glamorous job at all. I’m in corporate trust structured finance. Basically creating MBS reports, answering institutional investors q’s, and dealing with relationship managers. I supervise some entry-level slackers and it is getting really old. I know it is not the greatest job but my friend who works in the same city and works at a rival bank makes at least $25> me and he works comparable hours. I wished I would have jumped ship to there a while ago. I knew I was going to relocate (and will in ~6 months) so I never really considered making the switch. Plus, I am trying to get into an actual finance position. I have some good contacts in my new destination so hopefully I can make some head way there…
