People were caught doing the same thing on this board and were given 5 years. They were passing around an excel sheet with questions and answers on it. I hope he doesn’t get the 5 years but at least he is not booted out of the program
I was ready but not ready enough. I didn’t put the same amount of work i put on L2. This was clear in the PM session too. I messed up AM big time. My thoughts are I was ready but not too ready. I need to work more on myself in terms of focusing on CFAI books, EOCs, Schweser mocks, and Secret Sauce. Passed L1 and L2 on first attempts, no shame in failing L3, i mean in the end its the last level and supposed to be harsh. Im preparing myself mentality for this challenege, will register in last week of August to get the books by 1st week of september and that’s when the hard work kicks off. 1 of my weak areas was biases too. I believe i messed up big time and I thought TOO much about questions. If i get a certain %, i said is it possible to have such an easy answer? id erase it and write in a much worse handwriting. But again, I thought I did well in portfolio cases but i messed up. I was expecting to bomb PM but felt i did better in AM; ended up in bombing both. I was expecting band 8-9, ended up band 4.
passme, though I don’t know what you did, if I were you I would not lie and I would communicate to the CFAI that you are happy to co-operate with the CFAI in the investigation and will comply with all legal requests of the CFAI.
^ that was exactly what I did.
Regarding possible penalties:
5 yr and void of result were given to those people who deliberately trying to duplicate the exam.
public censure and void of result were given to that guy who posted content when the exam was still taking place in other parts of the world.
The latter seems pretty similar to my case. I hope my worst case scenerio is capped to this level.
This nightmare still haunts me in my sleeps and after I wake up.
I think in your case it should be more lenient than the latter because u posted after the exam finished without any intention to reconstruct the exam. My best guess would be a private censure with exam voided so don’t stress yourself out too much.
If you had the option to take your results (P or F) or void them and retake it next year - what would your choice be passme?
I still want to see a Pass getting voided.
You’ll probably get a censure and this year results voided at worst.
I bet you’ll get to sit next year
Hi Passme,
Wishing you all the luck and hopefully things will turn out to be lenient and you get away with a public censure.
After reading this, I’m pretty sure its just exam void and thats it!
Disclosure of Exam Content
Following the exam, two Level II candidates, Anurag Jain and Nana Kweku Nduom, used Analyst Forum, an internet chat forum, to contribute, solicit, and compile June 2009 Level II CFA exam content. The information was compiled into a spreadsheet and further offered to other candidates via the internet forum and other internet sources. The Professional Conduct Program investigated these matters and found that the candidates engaged in the conduct, thereby compromising the integrity and security of the CFA exam in violation of the CFA Exam Rules, Candidate Pledge, and the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, specifically Standard VII(A) – Conduct as Members and Candidates in the CFA Program. Both Mr. Jain and Mr. Nduom requested a Hearing Panel. After consideration of the evidence in each respective case, the Hearing Panels determined the candidates’ conduct of compiling, soliciting, and distributing CFA exam content violated the CFA Exam Rules and the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct and imposed the sanction of Five-Year Suspension from Participation in the CFA Program and Voiding of Exam Results on each respective candidate.
Following the exam, a Level II candidate, Randall Lucas, posted on his blog regarding his experience at the CFA exam and mentioned topics covered and material not covered on the exam. At the time of the blog posting, the CFA exam was still being administered around the world. The Professional Conduct Program investigated the matter and found that the candidate engaged in the conduct and thereby violated the CFA Exam Rules and the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. The candidate accepted the sanction of Public Censure and Voiding of Exam Results.
^^ +100!
What’s the verdict passme? Hope you got away with it and you see the PASS email soon…
“Hope you got away with it???” Are you freaking kidding me with this crap?? Oh yeah, I know you violated the rules, but I hope you got away with it because I have corresponded with you briefly through an online forum and therefore you are an exemption to rule violation. You people are so ridiculous it’s not even funny.
He didn’t do much … just discussing exam like questions, few days after the exam was over. I would say public censure and a warning tops! Voiding of the result would be a little to harsh.
No way, I think results voided is practically guaranteed. CFAI doesn’t consider severity that much. If they say you definitely cannot do something, and you were caught doing it, results are nearly always voided as a start
Come on dude, you need to cut the crap. You’re only rooting that he “got away with it” because he’s your “friend” (whom I’m sure you have a close connection with from the literally, tens of exchanges on this forum). And who the heck says “I hope you got away with it!”??? Really, what kind of person says that??? You must be a huge OJ Simpson fan.
Dean, you seem at the other end of the spectrum, almost as if you derive some satisfaction out of him failing? Would you honestly wish that upon anybody? Fuck the rules, I abide by them, in order to appease the institute and not get in trouble after i’ve busted my ass for 3 years, but seriously… who the fuck cares if we discuss questions AFTER the test?
To be clear I’m not endorsing discussing exam questions after the test publicly, and I wouldn’t do it because they are rules I could get in trouble in for violating, but I feel they are stupid rules. THE TEST IS OVER, who cares what discussions take place?
This type of shit ranks right up there with that one ethics question that said something to the effect of “Joe Bob should deliver a copy of the Code of Standards to his boss and make him aware he is bound by the Code to act in the highest ethical manner”. Yah, great, go do that to your PM and find your shit in a box after lunch.
I don’t personally know passme , nor we have interacted much here on the forum (I just know cpk123 personally - just saying so as to attract finance chicks), but as markCFAIL mentioned - I would definitely not want a hardworking person to fail just because he was discussing 1-2 exam questions much later after the exams were over. The forum itself gets lockecd out for one day so as to make sure the test is done and dusted across all the time zones and there is no information sharing of any kind via this channel.
These are stupid rules, but we ought to follow them. He was not trying to reproduce the exam questions, nor was he was caught cheating on the exam day - Both of which would ideally result in revocation of test-result and suspension of some sort, but a mistake as trivial as this one - just deserves a public censure IMO, but then I don’t design CFA rules nor chairing the CFAI committee, but do have a say, a public opinion on some ridiculous rule.
I was also very excited after the paper, not because my exam was good or bad, but just because it was over and wanted to check answers with like minded people here, most must be in the same shoes, some could contain the excitement, some could not - some end up getting caught.
If you check the CFAI PCP website - http://www.cfainstitute.org/ethics/conduct/Pages/candidate_sanctions.aspx and select Browse by violation = ’ Disclosure of Exam Content’ - There are 2 cases - Anurag Jain and Randall Lucas. His is closer to Mr. Randall’s case - Where he posted stuff on his blog while the exam was STILL being monitored over the world - the sanction imposed was - Five-Year Suspension from Participation in the CFA Program and Voiding of Exam Results.
So there is still ray of hope for passme. Keep us posted.
rofl…
all I know is that OJ was one hell of a RB
