Football season is definitely a tough one, then hockey season. I’m going with the 5-6am wake up call and getting it out of the way before the more important football stuff. My team’s on stage on Monday night so that helps out a bit too. I like the schedule you put together bannis. I’ll be a week or two behind you but will bounce stuff off the forum. Like you, not looking forward to revisiting Quant and time series again but need to make sure I nail it this year.
my team plays monday also. i’m calling a baily/bly pic-fest. go broncs! 5-6am is aggressive. post up and tell us all how that goes. : ) i just started last weekend and have logged in like 4 hrs tops, so really, you aren’t behind at all. anything before dec/jan is ahead of the curve.
With a 7 month old kid, that’s the only time in the house it’s really quiet. Glad to hear you’re a Bronco fan as well. The Raiders… SUCK!!!
anyone starting with fixed income?
FI not til november for me, but especially in light of the FNM/FRE news of late, it might be an interesting topic to start with. There’s enough qualitative that it wouldn’t be too too painful a 1st area. Don’t see why FI couldn’t go 1st. Giddy up. GMofDen, you wake up and study? Finished SS11 q’s, starting up SS12 reading now, going to do an hour and that’s enough for this weekend. Try to finish up SS12 by end of next weekend and that leaves me the last 2 weekends in Sept to tackle time series. Slow and steady.
Almost finished Alternative Asset Valuation. Very light SS.
PATRIOTS!!!
So many of you guys have already started and I have also planned to start tonight with Quant…since I haven’t registered yet so I’ll pick CFAI books what I have and go thru them for the time being till I register and get the new currculum. I believe nothing much has changed in quant. Banni…how do you find 3 choices as compared to 4?
Bannisja are you planning to work questions as you go along? I think that is the best way rather than leaving it till the end…
3 choices not that different- you normally could toss one out anyways. Questions as I go yes. Agree with you wonder- it helps reinforce stuff. Will order Q-bank in Oct or whenever it comes out. Until then, doing end of chapter q’s. Daj, sorry about Tom Brady. At least the Sox will still win the World Series this year. Dresch, good to hear about Alts being light even though they added a few LOS’s. Last year’s item set was on Real Estate. This year, maybe Hedge funds or PE? Will get there eventually (Jan probably for my read).
Bannisja, if the cfa material arrives on time I can work on time series while you are covering it. It was not my favourite topic this year so might as well cover it now. unfortunately the books of 2008 are not with me here so I wait for the new cfa material to arrive. They should not take alot of time. Are you using cfa material??
Hi guys, I’m new to the forum, Will be taking level II for the first time and judging by most of the posts on this board, you need to start early to cover and master all the material. Will be starting tonight although I plan to just do basic reading and questions to ease into it for now. Was thinking of starting with ethics. Any re takers with some valuable advice?
brady knee injury sucked. i guess that is what they call event risk in sports.
I took a break last year and didn’t sit L2. I hear that a few people got hurt with the Real Estate item set? Seems pretty straight forward. The new commodities/PE content seems quite vague, not sure what kind of questions they’d ask. Trying to choose my next topic hmmm…
^ straightforward now that you just read it, but imagine if you didn’t look at it again til june after just a light read and then you got hit with 6 q’s determining some cap rates by either BOI, build up, etc… knowing diff b/t the diff methods and when best to use them, and oh say a q w/ 4 properties and some cap and discount rates, which is the overvalued property. yeah, it snuck up on a few people. looking quickly at the real estate LOS’s, did they take out the CFAT and all of that taxes stuff? Were those actual LOS’s last year? would be sweet if they did- that stuff was the most painful of the RE stuff. next topic? feel free to join the quant party.
I actually made it up at 6 am yesterday. Slow to revisit Quant and I’m sure they’re gonna test time series this year so paying close attention to that one. Much more fun watching football than studying. Thing that sucks and reason I’m starting to hit the books again is that I’m STILL having these stupid cfa dreams. Basically because I failed and revisiting in my sleep all the Q’s I think I got wrong. BOP, PM. It’s pathetic and I hate it but gonna nail this next go around so it won’t happen again.
CFAT is still in the Real Estate material. Next up equity. I don’t even want to think about Quant.
a little behind on your schedule bannis, but picked up my quant book tonight
starting november 1st! it’s going to be good challenge, but i think 7 months is enough time.
I am getting started now as well. Just passed level I this June on first try and looking forward to getting going on level II. My books just came in on Friday after registering and got going on the Quant. It doesn’t seem so bad yet, but I will be able to tell more when I start working through the Qbank in a few months. For those of you who have already taken the level II exam, what would you say the biggest differences are from level I?
