My mother informed me that my stepfather has been admitted to the hospital with severe blockage around his heart…
Open heart surgery tomorrow. Studying is going to have to take the back seat for a couple days.

Sorry to hear that, but you’ll be fine. Take a few days to focus on your family and then when you can, jump back in and hit it hard for the last week. You won’t forget everything you’ve learned in a couple days. Hope your stepdad comes through ok.
I feel your pain. My brother passed away unexpectedly last Monday. Studying has been extremely difficult to say the least…

Good look, I’m sorry for the stress you will go through. On the bright side, this is not the worst phone call you could have gotten.

I stumbled on this somehow in the wake of everything and it has somewhat allowed me to remain focused as much as i can so i thought i would share.
The Stockdale Paradox:
You must retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.
AND at the same time…
You must confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they may be.
Exactly… it can always be worse. It’s all about perspective and MGR made me quickly realize that. As mentioned in my post above, I feel terrible for putting “worst” in the subject line.
Is this realy a paradox? You will win, but you must confront what is preventing you from winning first. Seems more logical than paradoxical.

Thought I’d give everyone an update. Triple bypass surgery went great today. No complications and finished right on schedule. He’s just now waking up from sedation.
Good news. Hope his recovery goes well.
