So there are a 100 days left for the exam! How is everybody’s progress? Is anyone panicking yet? Is anybody just starting? Has anyone already finished the first reading? I’ve finished reading ethics and did qbank questions for all readings. Same for Quant. Will start Economics today.
Don’t remind me!! I’m just finishing fixed income so hopefully finished the course in the next few weeks…Then it’s onto as many practice exams/questions as possible!
I just started last week, up to Reading 8 now. I’m a little concerned that I won’t have enough time to adequately do practice questions/exams and that I’m relying too much on stuff I learned (and kinda sorta remember) while doing my MBA.
I plan to have finished the entire curriculum in 3 weeks. Then it’s a LOT of practicing for 2 months.
Half way through FRA. Felling pretty good about ethics and quant… eh, feeling ok about Econ… FRA, so far so good, but I haven’t hit SS 9 yet. In terms of hours, I’ve been keeping track in spreadsheet and am curently at 170 hrs.
Are you guys reading the CFAI books or Using Schweser/Stalla?
Both!
Wow, 100 days makes me nervous. Can say going as per schedule by n large. Planning to finish it by April 15th…then review and practice.

I generally start with Stalla readings and video lectures… then complete passmaster problems… then complete CFAi problems. I’ve read the Standards of Practice Handbook twice, but other than that, have used the CFAi readings sparingly.
100 days eh? Calls for a drink… I’m about to finish FRA, have been doing QBank tests on everything I’ve done so far after completing every study session - I find it helps me retain as well as calms me down about having a bit over a month to practice.
100 days??? Oh my God, when you put it THAT way… Well, I’m done with Ethics, Quants and FRA. Starting Econ tomorrow. Using both CFAI books and Schweser. I hope to be done by the end of April so I can spend May reviewing and doing many practice questions and exams. Not panicking yet but really into CFA-mode now. Mondays, which is the day I free my brain from CFA stuff, while I’m watching TV or doing whatever I feel guilty for not studying. How pathetic is that? Ok, enough AF forum for today, must do more Q-bank…
Done Quant, Ethics sort of but will do more right at the end and just reading about capitalising inventories in FRA. Plan to finish by end of April all readings, doing about 15/16hrs a week study, leaving May to do pure questions, sample Q’s and practice exams. Good luck
Also done with Ethics, Quant, Econ, and now am on SS10 in FRA. I need to read Ethics again because I’m pretty sure I remember about 5% of it. Hoping to be done by end of April at the latest so I can study review for a good 5 weeks before. I’m only reading Schweser and doing Q-bank questions now after each reading, but am thinking about also adding CFAI questions. Everyone who does those seems to think that they are really helpful.
I’ve read through all of the texts, and have read Quants and Economics with Schweser. I plan to have all of them read by the end of the month, and then April and May is all practice problems and review. Pretty much every night is a library night at this point.
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have just recently signed up for the June 2009 session for Level I. I am starting studying this week. Do you think I can possibly finish studying all the material in this pretty short time frame? To give you some of my background, I finished my B.S. in Finance summa cum laude at a top 20 school in December 2007, and have been working for 1 year in structured finance. I have my Series 7 and Series 63 licences. Looking forward to your input and good luck to you all!
Hi, Registered for June '09, started studying two weeks ago, and looking for input if three months will be sufficient? Have finance/econ background, series 3 and 7, and have flexible work schedule right now. Feasibly I can devote about 3-4 hrs per day studying. Signed up with the expectation of averaging 20 hrs week for 15 week. If I get through the reading by end of April will May allow enough time to focus on practice exams? Also, where is the best place to purchase Schweser notes? Thanks and best of luck to all! John
absolutly_drew and jpgrandits: You will be fine with your backgrounds, just put your nose to the pavement and go with it. There is a lot of material here, just focus on conceptualization and continuous review and you should do fine. Don’t underestimate the test or your abilities to do well on it. Put in the time. I just finished up two Canadian regulatory courses in the last month and I wont be starting the material till the 10th. So it’s no longer 100 days for me, but I am confident I can pass if I really commit to the material. I am going to be putting in 4 or more hours a day for 5 days a week until the exam. It’s good to hear that everyone is plowing away at there studies, this message board is an amazing source of knowledge.
thanks for the feedback, cowtown! keep us updated on your progress.
I second CFACowtown, it’s definitely doable, if you are willing to put in the hours.
Thanks for the feedback cowtown and nm73016p! I have and will have difficulties putting 4hrs a day into studying given my workload, but i guess I’ll just do whatever I possibly can to get through this…good luck!
