Barely barely made it. It’s crazy how someone like Dinesh last year failed when he got over 80 on both mocks… Re: RESULTS THREAD Posted by: taz722 (IP Logged) [hide posts from this user] Date: August 19, 2008 06:10AM Level 2: Pass The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. i don’t see how that is even possible…
Wow…below 70 in Ethics, FSA, & Equity.
topher, you have given me hope… Thank you… The key is not getting <50 in Ethics and do semi-decent in the rest… if this is true taht proves that last year the MPS is less than 70%…there’s no other way

Not likely, but possible.
He was an exception and luckiest SOB… This was my score Level 2: Fail The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. The three columns on the right are marked with asterisks to indicate your performance on each question or topic area. Item Set Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 - * - - Corporate Finance 36 - * - - Derivatives 36 - * - - Economics 18 * - - - Equity Investments 72 - * - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - * - - Financial Statement Analysis 72 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 - * - - Quantitative Methods 18 - - * We have divided the full group of failed candidates into ten approximately equal score bands. Your score band below shows how your overall score on the exam compares with all other failed candidates. For example, if your reported score band is 1, you scored in approximately the bottom 10% of failed candidates. If your reported score band is 2, your score was within the next band width ranging from approximately the bottom 11% to 20% of failed candidates. If your score band is reported as 10, you scored in the top 10% of all failed candidates. Performance band of your overall score among all candidates who failed the exam: 10
If I fail this test, I better be a Band 1.
Damn so close! I bet just 3 or less q’s man. Hopefully this time you are above the line. It looks like Derivatives helped out the guy to pass.
highest score he could get, if you assume he scored the top value for every range 257.4/360 = 71.5% being a little more lenient, 99% of the top value: 70.79% 98% 70.07% 97% 69.36% 96% 68.64% 95% 67.93% 94% 67.21% 93% 66.50% 92% 65.78% 91% 65.07% 90% 64.35% he must have just scored really high in each category, pretty improbable to have your breakdown look like that and still pass.

I think that the MPS should be around…66-68… this test was hard…
You also cannot say he got the highest in each section, like saying he must have had a 69% in the 5070% - Alternative Investments 18 - * - - Corporate Finance 36 - * - - Derivatives 36 - - * - Economics 18 * - - - Equity Investments 72 - * - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - * - - Financial Statement Analysis 72 - * - - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 * - - - Quantitative Methods 18 - - *
If you get the lowest score, it says <=50%, so you could get 3/6 and still get the lowest score.
so that means the least possible amount of questions he could have had wrong and been in those ranges is 38… which is a 68% on the exam… pass fail cannot be much lower than that… maybe 67% at most…but also this was last year, passing rate was higher, so passing score was probably higher, i would say ours this year will be around 38% pass rate with a passing score above 65%
Taz722 could have got 70% assuming he got the maximum in those ranges. Alt 4 6 Corp 8 12 Der 12 12 Eco 3 6 Equ 16 24 Eth 8 12 Fin 16 24 Fix 8 12 Por 3 6 Qua 6 6 84 120 I’m just hoping that the CFA Institute keeps the pass rate around 46%. If they start to drop this then its going to be very hard to pass.

Check out 2008 results. I saw atleast 5 guys with Ethics <50% and they passed. Huge relief for me.
What I mean is you either do great on ethics and do ok on the rest or… Suck at ethics and do great on other places…
You don’t whether or not he got 3/6 or 4/6 on those vignettes. That, and the fact you don’t know which questions the graders threw out that year. I wouldn’t hold my breath on this.
So they do throw out some of the questions? Hmm… Didn’t know that. If that’s the case I hope they throw out some of the questions from alternative investments and econ this year…
Yes I know… But come on do you really think he made 4/6 in all of those? Seriously? We all have the 70% rule embedded in our brains… The reality points To somewhere just below r above that depending on the difficulty of the exam… Is not fair that in the past when the cfai published it’s grading criteria with the 70th percentile or something that now that the exam is tougher that this passing rate will be @ 70… Don’t think so… Cheer up we might get lucky
