Losing weight goal with 0 exercise

I’m with you Ghibli. I am also over 35 and basically on the “see food” diet. Of course, my body looks great and even though I’m not racing right now I can still hit the track and nail splits only a few seconds off my top form. I believe in intuitive eating with a skew towards getting basic nutrients. Eat what you want but pay attention to hunger/ satisfaction signals. In addition make sure basic nutrition needs are being filled like getting protien, fiber, and vitamin/ mineral dense foods along with the pizza and ice cream. Also, I think the body will end up being how it wants to be. Some are just fat and some are very thin. As an endurance athlete I had low body fat for the general population but not so lean for the population of elite runners and triathletes. I used to try to force it the few percents down to where the elites were. My body would refuse. I used to count calories and I should have been losing about a pound a week. I was training for an ultra at the time so I was burning up a lot. I kept it up for months. I think I lost 2 pounds. Crazy part is I eat about the same amount of calories now (I just run about 30 miles a week these days) and I am maintaining my weight… which is lighter than I was back then.

I think there a few people that either have such a high metabolism or enough physical activity that they can be on the “see food diet”. But I highly doubt those people work in an office. If they do, then they work out–a lot.

Simple fact is - if you create a 250 calorie per day deficit, you’ll lose about two pounds a month. 250 calories is roughly the same as a 2-mile run, or one Snickers bar.

It’s a whole lot easier to forego one Snickers bar than it is to run 2 miles.

I was suggesting one is more likely to be jacked if short. I drift up to 190#s on occasion. I think 180 is best for me. Magically, I’ll drift back down to 180 eating less. Let me really blow Turds mind. I eat once a day. Really. No snacking. Nothing but water, tea, or diet soda any other time. And I compete at a national level in a physically demanding individual sport.

Everybody on AF does this. Are we supposed to be impressed?

This was my original logic. I walk briskly 1 mile (home to work), so 2 miles everyday. Yea it’s not running 5 miles, but dang I hate running. Swimming is awesome, but running feels awful

bowling?

You must be a great lover… it takes sensuality to be a good swimmer

We’ve had this conversation before. Yes, it’s just calories in vs calories out. Keep a food journal like MyFitnessPal. It’s straight-up science, yo.

so what you’re saying is I correctly predicted your future with one of my previous posts. Good luck.

Lol thanks. Was Varsity back in school…

Did you just experience quarter wood?

I just vomited in my mouth.

Weight may be this, but health is broader. Turd’s info sounds to me like it’s pretty sound.

I’ve never been able to lose weight just by upping exercise, but through diet and a food journal, I have been able to lose weight even when I’ve been pretty lazy (not that it’s fun, but it’s doable). I exercise mostly for the mental health benefits and to make sure that I do something to make sure my body moves around and heart gets pumping. In the winter I tend to slack off because dislike gyms and hate the smell of locker rooms, but I do like to run and bike and do stuff outside when the weather gets better (dancing also helps, but dancing is more for fun and socializing and less for exercise). I’ll never be super-fit over time, or have a six pack I can show on Tinder, but I’ve held up a lot better over time than most of my college cohort, and the gift of gab helps make up for it with with the ladies.

The field of nutrition is full of disagreement, yet Turd has the answers. No hubris there. Any thoughts on the research showing that calorie restriction increases longevity?

Turd’s not big on humility, but he seems well researched on these topics.

It is interesting how the nutrition research changes every few years. For a long time, the standard approach to weight loss was to cut fat intake dramatically and replace those calories with pasta. Now it seems that that’s one of the worst things one can do in terms of glycemic loads. But that research has held up for a while.

People used to think drinking Mercury could heal all sorts of things. Now we clear out of rooms that have a broken thermometer for fear of fumes. I wonder what things we take for granted about health today will be completely debunked tomorrow.

If you’re a mouse in a lab, the evidence does suggest it works. However, I’m not sure what the point of living an extra 25 years would be if it means spending all of it (and the 25 years previously) mildly hungry. I get pretty irritable when I’m hungry, as do most people I know. I’ll take a shorter life that feels fulfilled.

The issue with bad health is not just that people might live shorter lives, it’s that the last decade or two that’s morbid because of health problems (and attendant financial costs of treating it). That is the bigger issue in my mind, vs sticking around for more years than anyone else.

Truth is that the 3 to 4 ounces of ground flaxseed I consume with water before my meal keeps everything moving and consistent. Nothing stays in my gut long. I’m the Harbor Freeway at 3:00 a.m. as apposed to 5:00 p.m.

you are going to want to have as many small meals as possible. it will increase your energy levels and your metabolism will increase. also, caffeine intake helps

I did too when I started eating as I do now over 20 years ago. Your body will adjust. It essentially gives up trying to make you eat. We are designed to eat whenever possible in order to be ready for the famine. We have agriculture now and the winter never comes. This understanding is the key in recognizing the bias in mainstream recommendations. Hunger is a vestigial that is now determental to most people’s health.

All else equal, the slower your metabolism the longer you can expect to live. Believe it. The idea that pumping the byproducts of respiration into your body at a faster rate is beneficial is almost comical.
