MAGA

On Saturday Trump said that he would not hold any more COVID-19 briefings because they were a waste of his time. Today his staff said that they he was going to hold a COVID-19 briefing.

Promises made, promises broken.

Overheard at Governor Gavin Newsom’s daily COVID-19 update, 4/27/20, after a reporter addressed a medical question to Dr. Mark Ghaly, California’s Secretary of HHS:

Governor Newsom said, “Thanks for asking the guy who went to medical school that question.”

Touché, Governor!

When I saw Governor Newsom’s daily report on YouTube I saw this video in the right margin. It’s from 2017, but, not surprisingly, is as true today as it was then. The difference, of course, is that today people’s lives are a lot more urgently at risk. Have a listen:

The buck stops way over there.

Chaser.

Jared Kushner, whose only qualification to be in this administration is that he’s the president’s son-in-law, on Fox & Friends this morning…

"We have achieved all the different milestones that are needed. So, the government, federal government rose to the challenge and this is a great success story and I think that that’s really what needs to be told.”

Today the US will likely surpass 60,000 deaths attributable to COVID-19 and there are more than one million confirmed cases. These are both underestimates to an unknown extent. Note that on March 1, 2020, there were 30 confirmed cases in the US. All this has happened in less than two months.

I’ve become very pessimistic about the coming months and perhaps years. I think, at best, this will be a slow burn that kills many thousands more. At worst… I don’t know. But it seems to me that our leadership is not prioritizing the lives of its citizens.

the issue with covid is that it’s cases/deaths will be exponential as no person had any type of immune system towards it.if covid only killed about 60k. i would consider this a resounding success as regular flu kills 50k, and thats with vaccines. But very likely the death count will still climb. the amount of deaths per day has already leveled off at 2k/per day.

on the million cases, us policy is to bend the curve not to wipe out covid. the intention is for the majority of the people to have covid at some point but very spread out so as not to bring down the healthcare system. the amount of daily new cases have already dropped off for this week. it could be a sign that the amount of deaths will die down in about 3 weeks as well. they says deatsh trail cases by about 3 weeks. so id says covid deaths will be around 100k in us all said and done.

lastly very likely we have more people who have had covid than what is reported. as for the majority of the population, this isnt very deadly. once we discover that everyone already has antivodies, we’ll realize that the mortality rate is far lower than the 1% that is reported right now. also since we have actually built up an immune system a resurgent is far less likely in us than china who wiped out the disease through an extreme quarantine. and if things do resurge, a widely available vaccine will be available by march 2021. the real issue is that there will prolyl be a lot of bankrupt companies and poors. thats going to have a more lasting effect. ppl will also taper their spending at least for a couple years. lot of emerging countries are going to have a lot of dead people not due to covid but due to economic crisis.

MSDNC FAKE NEWS!

Trump is the last person in the world entitled to call anyone else a liar.

How many indirect deaths and other negative effects are caused by continuing a shutdown for extended periods of time? Maybe our leadership is playing the long game, kind of the same way Sweden is. I don’t think they are but it’s nevertheless important to look at the big picture and not just the current death toll.

No one preaches “both the same” quite as loud as people who will experience none of the consequences, and see politics as an online creative writing game.

If Dems win we’ll have a majority party that actually has to listen to constituents, instead of having a majority party with a base that thinks and votes exactly the way the GOP needs them to because Fox, Breitbart, OAN, etc. One party resembles something somewhat democratic, and the GOP resemble something pretty fascist. Basically, this:

Yeah, I remember Obama was big on the mass deportations, I’m sure it’ll all be different this time! Just keep telling yourself this is change.
