Mock exam

@Cinderella. How do the current Elan Mock exams(purchased ones) compare to the real exam? easier, harder or about the same. I am asking this because, I have been scoring in the 50-60% range on Elan Mocks and that is hurting my confidence. Do I stand any chance of passing Level I

I took the exam in Dec and failed - used schweser and cfa mock. This time I’ve got elan’s mocks and I gotta say that they come closest to what I saw on the dec exam in terms of style, length and number of calculation questions on the exam. I don’t think you should be too discouraged by your scores. Elan says that 65% on their mocks is a decent score so you’re almost there. Elan’s two statement type questions are real killers. That being said, I feel their ethics questions are a bit on the easier side. Please bear in mind thatis is just my opinion. How did you do on the cfa mock? Keep going and hope for the best. Good luckk!!

@Cinderella, Thanks for your inputs. I will be taking the CFA Mocks this weekend. Will see how it goes. Good Luck to you too.

I don’t think there will be any 2 statement questions. On their website they give exactly what kind of questions they will ask and these 2 stmnts are not there. They are not there in CFA Mock either. They are certainly a killer and make you think hard…

yes, I’ve read about types of questions on their website and haven’t found anything about two statements. But people in this forum often say that exam is very similar to elan mocks, which have a lot of two stmnt questions. So I’m just curious what makes real exam look similar to elan.

Yes, Elan’s 2 statements questions are a nightmare for me, and their mock are full of them. I was wondering if the real exam have them too and now just realize that the CFAI website didnt mention it. So I’m wondering why Elan keep putting them on their mock and why people say it’s the closest to the real exam. Cinderealla, I agree with you on the point that Elan’s Ethics questions seems a little too easy. I always score at 77% there and I think the answers are too easy to guess sometimes too

I took the Elan mock 1 (pm) it was way harder than am…I got 83%. It is an improvement but i am not satisfied because i made some educated guess and luck seemed to be on my side. I hope the same situation is on the exam day…till then i will just keep drilling.

I hope your words are true! Those questions are a nightmare ughhh

when you give your score on the mock exam, is is the weighted score using the weight of each reading or just the basic percentage of correct answer over total question ?

Miss*Yiota Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > when you give your score on the mock exam, is is > the weighted score using the weight of each > reading or just the basic percentage of correct > answer over total question ? Give meaning post here? Is it supposed to be weighted score? I was calculating it basic percentage of correct answer over total questions.

Yes, when you post here… I thought the CFA readings are weighted (FRA is the biggest with 20% I think and derivatives only 3%). So by having 100% in derivative and 50% in acctg, the 100% in derivatives is not really helpful. Am I right ? should we weight them ?

What are u talking about, the mocks question breakdowns are (loosely) based on exam weightings. I’m pretty sure when someone is saying they got x% on the exam they got x% of the total 240 questions right…

Hi Miss Yiota, Could you please tell me where I can find the weightages for questions? Higher the weightage tougher the question huh? I would have thought that Ethics would be the highest. Anyway, please let me know. P

The question themselves do not have weightings. 1 question = 1 point The weighting is done by the number of questions they give you in the exam on a particular topic. For the mock exam this is already the case.

the sections with heavier “weights” just have more questions in them.

actually i checked it, the result is the same, whether you apply the weight or not

Miss*Yiota Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > actually i checked it, the result is the same, > whether you apply the weight or not Just focus your attention on the sections you’re weak on…FRA is the biggest but if you’re getting 90% of the answers right, spend less time studying that…For me my strongest sections right now are ethics, equity, derivatives and corp. finance; so I’ve put those to the side for now to focus on the others.

I do remember seeing some two statement questions in the E0C last year but I’m not sure about the exam. There definitely weren’t as many as they have. They’re good practise though coz they make you think real real hard and they’re conceptual, not calculator-based. Most of the questions on the exam didn’t need you to use your calc. How’re you guys doing on their mocks? optiix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cinderella Wrote: > > Elan’s two > > statement type questions are real killers. > > Is it usual to find many two statement type > questions on the exam?
