Yeah, no doubt. I’m getting really tired of the racist fkin’ sht that bigot BGAchad loves to spew. Yo BGAC, isn’t Thursday bowling night with the Klan? Say hi to the Imperial Wizard for me!

It wasn’t a jab, I actually thought ohai was a moderator.

Indeed, and date rape is very popular in USA. any idea why? i have my suspicions why after conversating with a few posters…

It is important to observe who starts such “offensive racist remarks”.

Every time its either igor555 or whatsyourgovt.

@Ohai:Sir with all due respect, you never complained when igor ruined the “productivity” of my following post:

A

Maybe Chad should implement a report function, if no one wants up/down votes.

Hmm. We used to have a report function, though it went directly to chad. Maybe it makes sense to try to get something like that up and running again. Perhaps some kind of list of flagged stuff that moderators can check on and investigate or make a decision about. I don’t know enough about the underlying tech that drives the site to know if that’s a small configuration change or a major rework of the internals.

I was grumpy in my posts yesterday because it’s frustrating to discover problematic posts by reading a thread accusing us of not moderating. What I take away from this is that we need a better system for flagging problematic posts for moderating decisions, because it’s just unrealistic to ask moderators to read each and every post that gets put up here.

I agree. The forum I was a moderator on implemented a flagging feature. It’s suprisingly useful. I expected people just to flag lots of nonsense - but they normally don’t. It produces a report giving the reason why flagged and a link to that post. When you review it, you clear it out of the list. I think its a standard functionality on phpBB but no idea what this forum is based on.

The one thing I request is to leave some freedom within the WC section. Moderation is great in the other sections where productivitiy is key but if to much reigment is implemented in the WC i’m afraid it will loose it’s value.

AK, sorry bud, nothing i said was malicious and i thought we were having fun. As you see i put an end to the “game”.

Well that thread was way too funny for the moderators to get in the way.

Its ok WYG.

No harsh feelings for you.

Sorry for my posts.

that was the dumbest post of the year

Would it be possible for the mods to ban everyone except me and TF? I’d like a safe place to share my thoughts on anarcho-capitalism and the price of gold.

if they ban krnyc how are u gonna know if she will meet up with u next time?

Animal magnetism.

When I moderate, I try to get a sense of whether people are just kidding around or spewing real venom. This is one of the reasons that it sometimes let stuff slide a bit, though it’s hard for me to judge if it is really offending others or if people are also joking around and giving back and forth. Here in WC I try I err on the side of tolerance, and outside we try to err on the side of caution.

It is true that if one reads the threads without knowing the history of some posters and certain topics, the threads look worse than they really are if you know the context. That could be a policy issue because the written word lasts a lot longer than contextual memory in most cases.

Sorry if I seemed too negative before. bchad, this is not a criticism of your work on WC. However, I do think there should be a stronger mechanism on AF through which certain threads are closed to further commenting if they are deemed to be without further merit.

This is just my personal opinion, but I still appreciate offensive comments if they are witty and creative. These add to the body of literature of civilization. However, comments that are both offensive and stupid add no value to society and should be discouraged.

I also think that moderators should get some kind of kick back. Otherwise, there is no incentive to do this job. Chad makes money on this site, so even if he cannot pay moderators, he should at least send some sponsor swag your way (if he does not already do this).

^Yeah, I’m sure Chad is swimming in cash from AF.
