Most expensive thing (for consumption) you've spent money on?

I’m gonna shell out between 40-75k for an Everest Expedition next year.

Does that include all the gear already? When I did the research, it said the gear itself could cost 10-15k from scratch…

You paid for your own wedding. That’s why it wasn’t a jillion dollars.

Its amazing how much more economical we are with our own money than we are with OPM.

Other than significantly increasing the number of guests, we had 84, I can’t imagine what one could add that would drive up the cost so much.

my three stupid hobbies:

Whiskey’s - $1000 (multiple bottles, but in one trip). I don’t even want to know how much I spend in a year on this stuff.

Cigars - $700 in a go, but closer to $3000ish/year realistically. mostly due to guests smoking them all.

Vinyl (music) - budget for $250/month on vinyl (sometimes spend it, sometimes don’t), but all in have paid about $4000 on the turntable/speakers/amp, and my collection is probably worth about the same. My next system is looking to be closer to $15k (it’s gonna be a while)

Other than that, I tend to just hemmorhage money in little spurts all over the place

I’ve got all the gear already. Top of the line stuff might cost you 10-15k from scratch, but you could go used and save a bundle on that. Only big gear purchase Ill need to make is oxygen which is around 3k.

Or, you could just save 3k and be a man. Would it be possible to skydive onto the top of Everest?

Generally skydiving is done from about 12,000 feet up, maybe 18,000 if you get wild. So, if you wanted to double the altitude, sure, you could hop out of the plane onto the summit.

Gotcha, so it is really all about the timing.

HALO/HAHO jumping is done much higher. So…in theory maybe?

Maybe TRH can go basejumping FROM the summit. Is it even possible?

Damn I wish I could afford it one day. Have fun and post some pics!

Maybe Felix Baumgardner (sp?) can give it a try. Skydive onto the summit of Everest and then base jump off.

Prob why I’m still single. The few females I’ve talked marriage with came to realize my frugalness carries over into celebrations such as that. $40k down the tank, fk man, it’s no wonder couples fight so much over money when they are starting a new lilfe together deep in the red.

I pretty much told both of my wives that if I had to pay for it, it was gonna be real cheap. Both of them got daddy to pay for it. He can spend as much as he wants on his little girl, but I want to focus on our marriage–not our wedding.

Same thing goes for the ring, too.

Yeah… to think I could spend the same about of money on a wedding as I could to buy an S4 (almost). No way. I’ve been to some over the top weddings and sure they’re fun, but so are the non-over the top ones.

I’d probably splurge on the ring a bit, I like a girl decked out in nice jewellery. But as for the wedding…that ones on the in-laws.

Yes, i agree!

Diamonds are actually pretty good investment. it doesn’t give you extraordinary return, but given the utility you get possessing it, it’s pretty good deal.

If you get a nice size, good colour and grading diamond, it will for sure go up in value in the future. I have a lot of friends with family in the jewellry business (diamonds, pearls…) and they always wear super big bling!! it’s one of those things it’s worth spending money on.

^ Obviously a woman’s point of view.

Obviously. I knew a guy who spent like $20k on the ring for his girl and he was making around 60-65k. Tisk tisk. And he passed the CFA L1 exam so he should have known better.
