NFL Thread

It doesn’t keep expanding. With the only recent exceptions being the Bucs and the Ravens, teams that had not previously won a SB needed to add a HC who had won before or a HOF QB to breakthrough. As far as the more recent Steeler and Giant SB wins go, winning is in the Rooney and Mara blood. You and LTJ should be comforted though since you both back winning franchises. The Pats will almost certainly have some dark years after Belichick and Brady retire, but as long as Kraft is still around, they’ll eventually return to their winning ways. Is there really anyone who doubts the post-B&B Pats will win another SB before the likes of Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnati, etc?

How about this, which I think makes a lot more sense: what team wins the SB typically moves in tandem with personnel life cycles. By that measure you would expect the last twenty years to be dominated by relative few teams, since presumably those teams’ personnel dominance would have a duration of several years and perhaps up to a decade or more. I cannot comment on whether Pop Warner dominance translates into NFL wins.

In the words of one of my favorite AF posters: “This isn’t rocket science people.”

But to be fair a LOT of teams have had chances & blown it, including my Eagles, Chargers had fantastic teams for quite some time and couldnt get it done, Jets were great for a while and couldnt do it, Falcons last year etc etc etc. Id say a good 66-75% of the league has had a legit shot at a super bowl in the last 10-15 years, its a matter of closing which I think is where higgs point comes in. Andy Reid & Donavan McNabb for instance - not closers. Bill Belicheck & Tom Brady - closers. Atlanta falcons & Matt Ryan - clearly not closers.

Good point. In hindsight, it’s amazing Romo is able to make it through all four quarters of the CBS broadcasts each week.

This is actually a good read. GOAT.

really good read - thanks for the post! Really cool story

Deshaun Watson out with torn ACL. Brutal. Talk about going from a sports high to a low in Houston.

nooooooooo, damn that is such a freaking shame to hear. Had to look it up to make sure you werent trolling. Guy is a beast

Yeah, man. Such a shame, what a great story he was so far this year. It could just be recency bias but this year really feels extra unfair with all the huge names going down for the season. The All-IR team would beat every team in the league.

jj watt & deshaun for the texans really rough year for them.

On other news - guys we gotta stop these black ppl from disrespectin our cuntry. Its negatively impacting papa johns sales!

Yeah as much as you hate to see Watson go down, at least their owner can worry about one less “inmate running the prison”, and that’s truly what’s important.

Oh what’s that? It’s November and the Patriots are absolutely throttling teams while the Chiefs can’t even score a touchdown against the Giants in FIVE quarters?

No way!

Nice win from the Iggles on SNF, what a second half! Here is the important stuff that happened in the second half:

By Week 17, we’ll have Zeke Elliott, Tyron Smith, Sean Lee, and Dan Bailey back.

And we’ll also have an 8-7 record (if we’re lucky), so it wont matter much, except for what draft pick we get.

Terry Glenn passed away in a car accident. He caught Tom Brady’s first TD pass.
