Obama a Kenyan

The slavery issue was an example of wackiness. Environmental issues are a place where libertarians tend to get wacky too. Libertarians just have trouble with issues where the extreme concentration of wealth and information and the ability to coordinate undermine the effectiveness of the invisible hand.

Its amazing how some people can get to know a person so well just by his/ her anonymous postings on a message board. By your yardstick conservative would mean you are Adolf Hitler. Yes, I am socially moderate in terms of encouraging family values and morals. But I am not against gay marriage.

Interesting article on the guardian, they said that the release of the long form was to coincide with Trump’s campaign (if he really runs) stomp in NH. And it was to make Trump look stupid for his birther views. What do you guys think? http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2011/apr/27/donald-trump-birth-certificateration

Well, marcus, obviously no one here knows you personally. However, basic rational procedure is generally to make the best possible conclusions with the information that we do have. For instance, we don’t know for sure that the theory of evolution is true. However, overwhelming evidence suggests that this is the case. Hence, many people might come to believe in evolution within a 99.9% range of confidence. Similarly, we don’t know for sure what you are like in real life. However, based on what we *do* know (i.e. your AF posts), we can conclude within a 99.9% range of confidence that you are batshit crazy. So yeah, that’s about it.

.

Well you seem batsh1t crazy to me too. I guess we are even.

Really only one way to decide this. Let’s run through a number of social issues and see where folks fall. Same Sex Marriage - I’m in favor. Abortion - Only in cases where mother’s health is at risk or child would otherwise be born with a horrible birth defect that would result in very low quality of life. Affirmative Action - Do not support Undocumented Immigrants - Deport them if you find them and let them follow the legal process for residency or citizenship. This goes for illegals from anywhere. Obama, American or Kenyan? - American, please drop this issue. Marijuana - Decriminalize it and tax it. Capital Punishment - Fry 'em. Corporal Punishment - You want to spank your kid? Fine. You want to beat your kid? Enjoy prison. Gun Control - You want a shotgun, 9mm, or hunting rifle? Fine, get a permit and demonstrate some proficiency and try not to shoot yourself or someone who doesn’t deserve to be shot. You want an AK-47? No. Porn - As long as no kids are involved, wank away. I’m sure I forgot some major social issue of the day, but those are what come to mind immediately. Like Marcus, I describe myself as a social moderate but with some conservative bias.

Same Sex Marriage - in favor Abortion - In favor, there is no rationale for being anti abortion other than for religious reasons. It is a woman’s rights issue. Affirmative Action - Against Undocumented Immigrants - I am against illegal immigration but there has to be a realistic solution without police state tactics. Marijuana - Decriminalize and tax. Capital Punishment - Don’t really care either way Corporal Punishment - I like the idea of a little spanking/ caning every once in a while. I want the teachers to do it. Gun Control - You can own whatever gun you want at home, except automatic rifles, just don’t carry them around on universities, offices and bars. Porn - I think porn has a bad influence on society and the family, may be connected to sexual trafficking and pedophilia but it should not be banned/ restricted.

What’s the point in arguing over the legitimacy of his US birth now?? He’s been in office for 2.5 years. Is Hawaii even really a state…come on.

higgmond Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Marijuana - Decriminalize it and tax it. As I understand it, for governments to tax marijuana consumption, it needs to be legalized. Under decriminalization, it is still an unlawful act and you cant tax it.

Legalized or decriminalized, I’m fine either way. I just don’t want to continue to waste time and money on arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning people for pot. Treat it just like booze. Wasn’t Al Capone convicted on not paying taxes on his illegal revenue, as opposed to being convicted of engaging in the illegal activities?

Chuckrox8 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What’s the point in arguing over the legitimacy of > his US birth now?? He’s been in office for 2.5 > years. It might even be possible to impeach him, but that also seems pretty unlikely in practice.

Same Sex Marriage - In favor Abortion - For it. Affirmative Action - Do not support Undocumented Immigrants - I lean more towards deportation, but its a complex issue because its tough to just deport people who have been here for years… (again though you might set a bad precedent). Immigration: We need an entire overhaul on immigration. Allow much easier immigration for skilled workers, college-students, foreigners who are willing to serve in the military. On immigrants in general I still think we should make it easier for them to immigrate; it will definitely upset the people in the job market, but in the long-run will be vastly beneficial for our economy. I’m not advocating opening up the floodgates because that could pose huge problems on the system and value structure, but our country was founded on immigrants who for the most part simply wanted to work hard. Obama, American or Kenyan? - This is retarted. Marijuana - Decriminalize it and tax it. Capital Punishment - W/ higg: Fry 'em. Corporal Punishment - Same w/ Higg Gun Control - I actually think we should have a much tougher stance on guns. As much as I love them, I find it hard to see why people really need handguns. Not saying we couldn’t enjoy use of them in places like shooting ranges, but do you really need to have a massive wall of guns to prepare for WW3? Porn - Is this really even debated anymore?

Can you imagine how pissed you would be if you were a worthy candidate for the Presidential office, but your mom decided she wanted to take a little vacation and happened to deliver you overseas? That would kinda suck. Next they’ll probably claim BO was born on the grounds of the US embassy in Kenya. Although it’s an old fashioned rule I take some pride in knowing that you have to be born on American soil to earn the leadership of this country.

Did it not occur to the birthers that had there been any truth to their arguments, Hillary would have nailed it 4 years ago?

Idk man, that sounds pretty center-left, unlike most of your posts… (except for the spanking part, I don’t know about that)

>>Based on what? You know me personally? Its amazing how some people can get to know a person so well just by his/ her anonymous postings on a message board. Marcus, in this very thread you’ve made sweeping generalizations about people and groups of people that you have never met. Why is it ok for you to form such opinions about others, but wrong for them to do so about you?

Chuckrox8 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Although it’s an old fashioned rule I take some > pride in knowing that you have to be born on > American soil to earn the leadership of this > country. What “natural born citizen” actually means is never defined in the Constitution, and so there have been a number of interpretations. It’s not clear at all that “natural born citizen” must mean born on US soil. A summary of the debates is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Born_Citizen_Clause Toward the end, it says: According to an April 2000 report by the Congressional Research Service, most constitutional scholars interpret Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution as including citizens born outside the United States to parents who are U.S. citizens under the “natural born” requirement. This same CRS report also asserts that citizens born in the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are legally defined as “natural born” citizens and are, therefore, also eligible to be elected President.[29]
