Obama a Kenyan

Yep, for example McCain was born on a base in Panama.

read a great quote today: “Jesus wasn’t born in America, but you don’t see Republicans trying to keep him out of government.” i’d like to point out that Jesus didn’t run for President and its also clear that he was an illegal immigrant; stealthily crossing borders at will and taking domestic teachers and preachers jobs out from under them in their own places of worship.

marcus, >>Abortion - In favor, there is no rationale for being anti abortion other than for religious reasons. It is a woman’s rights issue. This is really lazy thinking to assert that there is “no rationale” outside of religion. I mean, I see how it makes it easier for you to be dismissive, but it just isn’t true - even if you don’t find such rationale entirely pursuasive. I would encourage you to think harder.

When I first saw this thread I thought it said “Obama a Keynesian”. I chuckled.

Interestingly the whole birther issue was actually started by Hillary Clinton supporters during that primary (Note I did not say started by Hillary!). Obviously some fringe elements of the right have continued to carry the torch of this smear, just like many on the left accused the Bush admin of being complicit with the 9/11 attacks - even Howard Dean referred to theory as intersting and worth investigating, and he can hardly be called a fringe element of the Democrats.

Some fringe elements…you mean the guy who is leading the field for the GOP primary? Or the 48% of republicans who did not believe he was born here. Face it there’s racism here and it’s pretty sad that the first black president had to show people his birth certificate for a second time time to “prove” he was born here.

Agree it is sad that Hillary supporters had to start this train. I understand that using the all-purpose explanation of racism makes it easier to be dismissive rather than taking an argument on its merits but what is your evidence that this is racially driven given that black Republicans don’t face similar accusations? To me that very obviously suggests that this is driven by partisanship. Is there something other than your own personal stereotypes that provides a basis for thinking otherwise?

Yeah, I wouldn’t just dismiss this as being race-driven. Every presidential candidate faces some sort of smear campaign. John McCain would have died from old age during his presidential term. John Kerry is a flip-flopper. etc.

He’s not the first black president, he’s the first mixed-race president and even that is debatable according to some “scholars”.

Ok. Maybe we can just call him the “most black” president in history then.

Eh, I was actually going to say Bill Clinton also. He has the jazz thing going for him. Obama shoots hoops though.

No, not unless you are a capitalist fundamentalist. I am pro gay marriage pro lower taxes and definitely not a libertarian. However, by America’s skewed standards I would be a screaming commie socialist.
