CFAI looks at your score as a whole, they don’t automatically fail anyone based upon ethics alone. In some cases it can be used to decide borderline cases.

Yes they do. You need more than 50% in ethics to pass, even if u score >70% in all others… Its v sad but true

Cougar84, Can you post your results table? How much did you have on Ethics? If my guess is correct, I’d say one of those 5 areas you had >70% was Ethics. In comparison with mehranhc (http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?11,896080) who also had 5 areas >70% and failed, I’m guessing that if you’re in a limbo Ethics will decide your faith (which makes it immensely important)

My co-worker got (6) >70, (3) 51 to 70, and <25 in ethics and FAILED!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks to everyone for helping keep me sane during my crash study week before the exam, where I had to cover everything but economics and ethics…which turned out to be possibly my two worst areas. Ha. So much for early studying (and majoring in economics undergrad!) I failed both mock exams I took, barely, in the two days before the exam date and also was at or below 70th percentile in most every area on Analyst Notes and in the bottom 10th percentile on that site in time spent preparing in the 4 months I was a member there. I never could have pulled this off except for the fact that I’m a CPA, so CF and FRA were mostly second nature. Lessons learned: 1. Start studying a wider breadth of topics earlier. I need to ID a good study system for L2 and will start this weekend. 2. Use flash cards for formulas and definitions that repeatedly rear their heads on sample questions or seem important. This was HUGE for me. I have never in my life used or created flash cards before, but they probably saved me. 3. Cram. It works for me–always has, always will. This is not to the detriment of #1 above, but I think taking 4-5 12+ hour days to study right before the exam really gets your brain thinking about the right things and gets your mind focused where it needs to be…on caffeine and CFA concepts. 4. For some of you who are truly pulling >90% consistently on practice exams, congrats. I am jealous. For the rest of us, give up on the idea of “mastering” everything in the LOS and start embracing the idea of “understanding the concepts” for the majority of topics encountered. 5. Take lots of practice questions, and review the answers immediately. It’s great to get the answer correct, but more important to understand the WHY and HOW of whatever the correct answer turns out to be. 6. If you are on this board, feel confident that when you get to the test center, you are well ahead of the curve and more prepared/confident/knowledgeable than 75-80% of the people there.
