Olympics = great distraction!!

Thank GOD they are staring soon. I will get all of my anxiety out by cheering for the participants!! What a great way to make the last 2 weeks go by faster. If I pass I will have to fashion myself a CFA silver medal out of tin-foil. Next year I’ll go for the gold!!

agree! cheers!

No interest whatsoever.

I’m happy they’ll be on because I’m sure my gf will want to watch… which means I will not be distracted from my studies by better shoes. Really, in today’s society it seems that the games are pretty worthless.

CFA results yes. Olympic results no. I haven’t taken an ounce of interest in any sort of Olympics since Katarina Witt retired, and even then it was still marginalized to the 3 minutes that she was on tv.

What are your favorite events? I love Track & Field (Athletics), Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics…in that order but I enjoy watching many of the other diciplines as well. This will be my first Olympics with a nice sized (well, 37" is good enough for me) HD TV set – I just hope that the DVR has enough capacity. I can’t wait.

  1. water polo 2. swimming 3. track & field 4. gymnastics no joke on the DVR capacity- best part is getting to fast forward the life story crybaby bs

The Olympics is a big time sink for me… My favorite sports are: a) MMA (in the stands during the opening ceremonies if things go well and any other time is fine like in the pool during water polo) b) Bicycling (Track, then road) c) Track d) Marathon . . . zzz) Gymnastics & synchronized swimming (tie)

I agree with Joey…after watching the tour de france all july I went out and bought a Trek, am interested in the cycling only really.

I like boxing… I challenge those heavyweights to pass all 3 levels of the CFA examinations after they retire from professional boxing. Wondier if all those hits to the head damnaged their memory. Ping pong and Badminton is fast paced so I enjoy them. Also when i’m really bored, i watch equastrian…somethign mesmerising about horses jumping over gates and watching them knock down poles… 100 metres final is always a fav. although I only watch the highlights on evening news as it only lasts for 10 seconds… (as opposed to watching for 30 minutes preparing the track, warming up doing stretches, false starts etc.)

Road Race for Cycling is gonna be awesome! The whole race is actually gonna be live here in Australia for once. I’ve booked out the whole Saturday. I’m predicting Luxembourg to take gold though. Kim Kirchen and the Schleck brothers… I wonder if L-bourg ever wins any gold haha… So it would be nice to see I guess. I really like the wired dynamics of the cyclists competeing against people who are their work and teammates every other day of the year… It always makes things interesting,

I’m gonne be in Beijing. No, I’m not some olympics fanatic, but at the moment I’m in bangkok for work and some friend got tons of tickets, so I go visit him for a weekend… I’m really wondering how beijing is around the olympic… heard some crazy stories… really funny :wink:

I can see the point of watching the olympics if you are a cycling/running/swimming fan, but I don’t watch any of these sports in the intervening 4 year period, and see no particular reason to watch them because a corrupt board of ex fascists decided that we should all meet up in Beijing this year. I’m dreading 2012 already…

I’m not a big fan of any sport since they are all a distant second to MMA. :stuck_out_tongue: However, I will enjoy the Olympics for: 1. global spirit that doesn’t involve mutual annihilation 2. perfectionism and high level of excellence 3. extreme high stakes competitiveness

  1. such specialised activities that drug use always wins. 5. Rampant cheating.

hahaha

You didn’t happen to play waterpolo in college did you???

Agreed, hooray for the international distraction! I enjoy much of the Olympics, but loathe any event where the primary way to win is by judges scores.
