Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave

wow, i missed out badly… it just is not fair

Have another baby

J/k

No serioesly, with first baby i took 5 personal days and with second 4 personal days. This is messed up. I want my 6 months paid!

I agree that men are at even bigger disadvantage than women when it comes to parternity leave. My firm, that prides itself on being super family friendly (top 20 in the country for women or smth like that), has incorporated one week (whopping 5 business days) off for men only two years ago! So now they can combine it with a week of personal time and take 2 (whole!) weeks in a row. Wow, right? But no more than that, as it is frowned upon to take more than 2 weeks in a row off for anything!

wow. very disappointing. worst news ive heard all day

Do you live/work in NY Vandy?

I can’t imagine taking more than 2 weeks off for anything at all, except for maternity leave or an extremely serious illness/accident. Why would anybody ever want to take more than 2 weeks off of work?

I think there shold be qual rights for paid maternity and paternity leaves… of course the social stigmas is another issue all togther and will take much longer to overcome

No, but it’s only a matter of time until this becomes a federal thing. wouldnt surprise me in the least if it happens in the next 1-4 years

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not but if not, this country really is brainwashed.

^Name one reason why you would want to take 3-4-5 weeks off of work.

Illnesses, accidents, and maternity leave (while your body recovers from having 20 lbs of flesh expunged from it) notwithstanding.

At least we know Vandy won’t be reproducing.

I could imagine wanting to travel somewhere far (Australia/Japan/China) you may want more than 2 weeks, but certainly I couldnt imagine sitting around at home for 2 weeks. Heck I could have easily done a month or two in Costa Rica. I however could not imagine more than a week or so in typical Carbbean places etc.

You could take that time off to travel across Europe etc.

Plenty of reasons one would want to take off more than 2 weeks.

Why would you not want to take that time off? What could the argument against it possibly be?

I’ve taken over 3 weeks off in 1 go each year for the last 4 years. when I got married I took almost 5 weeks off, we had a few days before the wedding catching up with people who were coming from overseas, wedding on Sat and Sun, chilled Monday and Tuesday and then flew out for 3.5 week honeymoon. It was amazing, best time of my life.

If I have a kid I’d ideally like to take the 1st month off.

Can you really not think about a reason to take 3 week off? There are so many places in the world to see.

When I got married, I took two weeks off for a honeymoon. While I enjoyed it, I realized that two weeks is my limit. I don’t like being away from my La-Z-Boy recliner and my cat for more than two weeks.

Plus, as a semi-self-employed person, if I’m not working, I’m losing money.

This is sarcasm, right? Not being at work is fantastic. Work as little as possible while meeting your standard of living…

“so many places…to see.” Don’t get it. Really a waste of my time. So overrated. I travel to do things. Like hike, ski, surf, whatever. You don’t learn much as a tourist. I love how people always claim 'the people" in X country are so friendly. Yeah, they want your money, and if you’re a single female, well, you know what they want in that case. Their peers would kill them if they don’t treat you well. Really a vapid pursuit. Go work among the natives if you want to expand your paradigm.

traveling the world is so 1900s. planes are literally the most carbon/energy intense leisure activity humans partake in. is it really worth destroying the planet to go ski a different mountain or look at some different painting? evolve already.

{kind of joking, kind of not}

Don’t follow. Carbon in the atmosphere is at dangerously low levels after millions of years of natural sequestration. Any additions will help life on the planet thrive. Do you dispute plants are having trouble breathing at 370 ppm? They grow much faster at 2000 ppm and die below 150 ppm.

energy intense. and most still think carbon and/or other heavy industry byproducts are not good. the people of beijing would disagree with you.
