He’s worked for Becker CPA prep for a long time teaching accounting topics, so yeah, he knows his stuff. He’s the guy in a lot of the video lectures.

I’m not that much of a video guy myself. Always have a hard time fighting with the urge to sleep when watching the lectures. You think Olinto would be worth to watch?
he definitely is mates. I was his level 1 student. Believe me you won’t sleep in his class and I was watching just videos as well. How I wish I could attend a direct class of this guy. A legend…

Can anybody that has any experience with both Peter Olinto and John Harris compare the two? I understand the likelihood that somebody has taken a course with both instructors is not very good. Just wanted to see if anybody could provide some insight…

John Harris is incredibly overrated. I went to his class and still scored below 50 in FRA. I would strongly urge against going to see him.
You guys really pumped me with Olinto, I wanna try his videos out. I will be studying from the CFAI books and Schweser notes. Is this a problem if I watch Elan’s videos while studying from another prep provider?

WHILE I WAS TAKING BECKERS CPA REVIEW COURSE OVER THE SUMMER OF 2010 I HAD ACQUAINTANCE WITH OLINTO FROM TAKING HIS BEC AND REG SECTION COURSES. FOR ME, HE JUST SEEMED LIKE AN AVERAGE INSTRUCTOR. A GREAT PRESENTER, BUT JUST AVERAGE COMPARED TO SOME OF THE PROFESSORS I HAD IN COLLEGE IN TERMS OF WHAT I WOULD CATEGORIZE, EXPERTISE IN MATERIAL HE TOOK RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH. EXAMPLE, A SECTION INVOLVING KNOWLEDGE OVER COMPUTER, FIREWALLS, NETWORK AND DATABASES I FELT LIKE A LITTLE MODESTY WOULD HAVE SUITED THE PROGRAM WELL. HOWEVER, CAUSE I BET SINCE HE ONLY TEACHES THE BOOKS AND DOES NOT WRITE EM YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH FOR PAYING FOR SOMEONE TO READ YOU THE IMPORTANT MATERIAL. LASTLY, I GOT A SENSE THAT HE HAD THE NATURAL ABILITIES TO BECOME A STAR INSTRUCTOR N PERHAPS THERE IS MORE MONEY IN FOR HIM A GUY WHOS GOT A JD.CPA.CFA?ETC TO TEACH ONLINE CLASSES INSTEAD OF PRACTICE LAW, BUT THEN AGAIN I REMEBER THE BECKERS CPA REVIEW COURE COSTING $3000, SO NO SURPRISE.
I took John Harris’s class and I thought it was very good. I think he did a very good job making penions, intercorporate investments, and temporal/current rate method understandable for someone who isnt a cpa. I would definitiely reccomend it as 95% of the people who post on him do; the notes he gives you is all I used to review FRA and got over 70 in the section.
Hey even I was his Level 1 student. And you being from Pune were you in New Horizons class? And hey even though it was virtual thing this guy has the most energy to make boring sections like FRA more interesting at least for Level 1 he is recommended. Not Sure abt. L II though. For that thing CFAI text is the norm.
