I just finished my Schweser Practice Exam 2, and got the same result as Exam 1 (67%). Bit disappointed there was no improvement. I got 67% in both am and pm. All it takes in the am exam is one question to completely ruin your score overall. That is certainly worrying. I think the answer is to try and get a really good score in the pm exam.
Sup Paul, we’re on the same schedule - I agree that a strong PM is a good goal considering the AM is a toss-up. I scored a 77% in the PM of Schweser #2 and a 65% in the AM yesterday. An improvement over last week, which is all I could ask for. Schweser #3 is on the slate for next week.
I did schweser exam 1 today and got 63% overall ex ethics and GIPS. I dropped a lot of points on poor exam technique in the the am paper which can be sorted with practise
It highlighted some of my weak spots, I need to do a bit of work on tax, estate planning and currency derivatives.
in 2 minds whether to focus on those areas next or whether to do my 1st pass of GIPS and ethics
Just graded my first practice test, Schweser Exam 1. I scored 53% in the AM, 62% in the PM.
A little lower than where I had hoped to be (especially in the PM) but I’m not too disappointed. Also picked up on a lot of correctable poor exam techniques.
I did both of these open note, but didn’t need to reference my notes much…there were far fewer technical questions than I was expecting…more of a big picture focus. Hopefully the real exam is the same.
Time management in the AM section is going to be the hardest part.
50 morning, 57 afternoon on Schweser Volume 1, Exam 1. Left a lot of points on the table in the afternoon by rushing through the exam a bit too quickly–7-8 questions missed due to poor reading comprehension/silly mistakes.
My score is low, but I’m unconcerned. This is right in line with my first Level 1 and Level 2 mocks, and I’m taking my first mock a few weeks earlier in the process for Level 3. Passed the first two tests on my first try, so hopefully I’m all set as long as I keep going at it hard. Shooting for 60% overall on my second mock, tentatively scheduled to take place this Tuesday and Wednesday nights in split sessions.
i know past test takers say the same, but do you (or anybody) run up against 180 minutes on AM sections regularly? I seem to finish in ~90 minutes (3 tests so far) and my scores are consistently increasing.
I’ve been pretty consistent at 90 mins on both AM and PM sections for the 2 mocks I’ve done. I need to force myself to slow down a bit because I think the speed is causing me to make stupid mistakes.
did my first exam am schweser yesterday because I was tired learning from reading and keep forgetting the material. scored 48 and went 20 minute above thr time . I felt good about it because it allowed me to know what to expect and have initiated the loop: test, read, test. I ll take the afternoon this week. let u know
keep doing practice tests and reviewing the questions you got wrong.
also you should be setting your test taking strategy soon. by that i mean timing yourself and taking tests under exam like conditions. also if you plan on picking the low hanging fruit ( doing the lower point questions first on the am exam, or starting with your strong areas) you should be including that in your pratice test strategy.
also dont forget to start using bullet points as that will save you time
I heard quite a few candidates from last year say that they consistently finished practice exams in less than 2 hours but on the exam day they were really pushed for time in the morning session.
i graded very conservatively. meaning tht if i wasnt sure the answer was correct i gave myself no credit instead of partial credit. this forced me to go back and redo those questions so i knew exactly what the correct answer is
So I’m still trying to get myself back on pace (it seems like I have spent this entire season trying to catch up with my budgeted pace only to fall back behind again); with that said I started to do practice tests this week and weekend. At this point I am only doing the PM sections - once I work through all the Schweser tests and the CFAI stuff I will swing back around and do the AM…
So far this is where I am at:
Schweser Book #1
Test #1 78% / with 53 minutes left - schweser website average right now is 69%
Test#2 85% / 50 minutes left - schweser average is 62%
Test#3 88% / 43 minutes left - schweser average 69%
Schweser Book #2
Test#1 73% / 46 minutes left - Schweser average 68%
I feel like Schweser Book #2 Test #1 has been my lowest practice test at all three levels. I had a lot of positive mojo built up after the first book, but this last test has taken me back down a couple of pegs.
I notice that the schweser website average is not that different across the exams - I would like to know how you guys are finding this specific exam as in reading some of the answers I feel like there was some really hair splitting logic used (even by Schweser standards) this may be just my perception though…
Did schweser book 1 exam 2 today and ended up with a disappointing 61%. Surprisingly I did well the morning and had a shocker in the afternoon. Worryingly the afternoon session felt fine when I was doing it.
its amazing how easy it is to get thrown off track in the morning paper if a few questions don’t go your way. An ambiguous question followed by a question that you just outright don’t know and your head can easily drop. I’m having to adjust my technique from levels 1 and 2 of doing it all in order. There could be easy marks at the end of the paper you could be throwing away by spending forever on a question you might never solve.
Schweser Book 1, Exam 1: 53% Morning, 62% Afternoon.
Schweser Book 1, Exam 2: 63% Morning, 58% Afternoon.
I really thought I did even better than 63% on the Exam 2 Morning Session. I thought it was pretty easy. Exam 2 Afternoon session was miserable. Overall, disappointed in today’s Exam 2 score, but I made progress over last week’s Exam 1 attempt.
Just got 55% on CFA 2010 morning paper. disappointing score but it felt like a <50% during the paper. Didn’t give myself any partial credit though. Have just been looking at the 2010 results thread which made me feel a bit better.
Went to the full 3 hours and could have done with more time to look back through it and pick up some missed points, I ran out of time basically. been doing schweser papers in 2 hours.
