practice exam results - how're you doing?

Book 1, Exam 2. 58% on AM, 65% on PM. That PM session was hard, dissapointed that I couldn’t pull my AM score up with a high PM score. I’m aiming for 65% AM and 75% PM.

I seem to really not understand the IPS questions. Just getting a bunch of zeros on most of those questions. Answers seem so “oh yeah, I guess that’s a unique circumstance”. Hate the ambiguity of these questions, so soft.

I’ve been through 4 of the Schweser practice tests and I feel like every other one is a completely different thing. The material is just so unbelievable broad. On the one I took today, there was a good 15 point question on a topic I hadn’t seen before. Complete mind blank. There goes ~10% on the AM right there.

To a certain extent though, that is the point. They are designed to be completely different so each exam you’ll encounter new material and not do that great. But with each exam, you make note of what you’ve missed and learn it so you never screw it up again. Then come exam day, hopefully the exam will cover 90% of all those mistakes and you’ll pass.

^ yeah exactly. The game plan for tomorrow is to work through all the stuff I missed on it. Just constant questions, reworking, tweaking, memorizing, more questions.

Finally worked my way through all the Schweser PM and now AM practice tests. I’m interested in any feedback you guys who have done the Schweser tests have to give. I found my PM scores to be more or less constant across the 6 tests, however I found my AM scores to bounce around somewhat. I improved a little bit from the initial couple tests but still a lot of dispersion - it just seems like there was 1 to 2 heavy weighted questions on each test that I had no idea what they were looking for and basically got a 0 out of X. I’ts tough to feel good about yourself if you end up punting on 10-15% on each test. For what it’s worth I found that my AM “average” score was about 10 points lower than my PM average.

I’ll probably start in on the CFA tests next weekend. All in all I feel decent about where I am at, but feel like I am still just trying to get through the morning and then put the thing to bed in the PM…

I’m hoping that the CFA morning papers are more diversified than schweser. the IPS will be a fair % of the paper but we know to expect that and prepare for it. I’m hoping that the CFA papers are less likely to throw in a 25 point question on a small part of the syllabus

Been averaging 70-75% on AM schweser. I’ve done 5/6. The afternoon results have been a little more mixed, with as high as 85% and as low as 62%. Although, I’ve disagreed with several schweser answers on afternoon.

Took CFA 2013 Mock PM session yesterday and scored 77% (including 6/12 on ethics which I haven’t really hit that hard) which I was pleased with. Obviously, that’s a lot more indicative of what we’ll see on June 7th than Schweser.

Schweser Practice Exam Book 1- Exam 1: Overall 62% (54am/ 70pm). Not sure how I feel about this given I thought I had a much better understanding of the material. Started Schweser Practice Exam Book 1- Exam 2 yesterday… Finished the AM section with a 70% and finished 4 items sets (current score 68% on those 4 items sets). Essay’s active recall component seems to be much harder than anticipated. Is anyone still doing QBank? I am finding QBank almost too easy compared to the mocks. My avg on QBank is in the low to mid 80s for all sections. Not sure whether it’s wise to still be doing QBank at this point, but comments are welcomed. Doing CFA EOCs now, and getting crushed!

Exam Results

Schweser Exam 1: AM 59%, PM 75%, AVG 67%

Schweser Exam 2: AM 73%, PM 75%, AVG 75%

Missed some big questions in the Exam 2 AM session, could have nailed it good, oh well good improvement over the first one. Right in the sweet spot range now, just going to practice a bit more and maintain up to the day of the exam

I’ve taken the first three Schweser tests and my overall scores have ranged from 63% (on the first, 5 weeks ago), to 76% on the third.

I’ve taken all CFAI PM mocks I can find and my scores have ranged from 72% to 80%. As far as the CFAI AM tests, I’ve taken 2007 through 2012 (2013 reserved for this weekend), and my scores have ranged from 67% to 77%.

I’ve graded the AM’s rather conservatively, but these constructed response questions seemed to have turned into a strength for me.

“I’ve taken all CFAI PM mocks”??? Where can I find these???

Man, reading your posts always makes me feel like a slacker.

Do you have more exams to do in the final 4 weeks or are you going to review notes instead?

.

Where are you able to find CFAI Mocks? Just googling around?

Yup, they’re out there…

I’m also under-achiever in relation to cgottuso! I seem to be consistently mediocre with little improvement in score. However, I am encouraged by my consistent, albeit medicore scores!

  • Schweser Practice exam 1 - 68%

  • Schweser Practice exam 2 - 67%

  • Schweser Practice exam 3 - 75%

  • CFAI 2008 AM - 69%

  • CFAI 2009 AM - 69%

  • CFAI 2010 AM - 66%

Plan for the next month is to do a final pass through the material, plus do remaining CFAI past exams.

What do you guys think of those item set practice quesitons on CFA candidate resources? They seem like good practice, but I’ve averaged 85% after 7 sets, so either I’m in really good shape or they aren’t that tough.

Anyone tried?

I only work 80-90 hours a week, volunteer at the Salvation Army shelter during evenings, and fly F-18s for the National Guard on the weekend. Aside from these commitments my schedule leaves me plenty of time to study.

Do we know what the “you’re good to go” score is for L3. Hasn’t really had much mention this year. For L1/L2 it seemed to be 70%-75% and you should be sweet. What is it for L3?
