As for taking advantage, that really isn’t the goal for most women (Russian or not)… I suspect you had some personal experience here…
Yes, I know that there are some who take advantage (in every culture) and there are some who are genuine, but also protect their own interests (which is understandable). At times, when one party is protecting their interests, it can feel like it is taking advantage, and it gets worse when one knows that there are others who blatantly take advantage, so you start to wonder now and then which description applies to the person in front of you. Only time and experience can help there, I suspect.
I think a lot of relationships are spoiled by applying the lessons learned from the last relationship inappropriately to the person in your current relationship - i.e. you do something because that’s what would have been appropriate (you think) for your last partner, when in fact your new partner is a different person. Like old generals, we are often trying win the next war by refighting the last one. I have found that remembering that each person is different helps a lot, although it also helps to understand if you are attracted to certain personality traits that have specific downsides too.
So one thing to realize with both men and women is that many of us change over time and our priorities do. When guys are younger, we’re often just trying to get notches in our belt. As we get older, we start to appreciate a woman that is more understanding and low maintenance (though we still want to be physically attracted to her at some level). We like the feedback of women wanting to be with us, but the chase also starts to get tiresome eventually, particularly as one realizes that there is a big difference between someone you click with and someone you just want to play around with. So make sure as you get more experience that you aren’t confused about men in their 30s because they don’t act the same way as men in their 20s. And vice versa with women.
