Question

I’m going in for a new suit on Friday. What is a good price range to tell the local tailor at a non chain reputable store? Pearl City Breweries has 8 million shares outstanding that are currently trading at $34 per share. The company is choosing whether to distribute $22 million as dividends or to use the same amount to repurchase its shares. Ignoring tax effects, what will be the amount of total wealth from owning one share of Pearl City Breweries under each of these alternatives? Cash dividend Share repurchase A) $34.00 $34.00 B) $31.25 $37.00 C) $31.25 $34.00 What is the impact on shareholder wealth of a share repurchase and a cash dividend of equal amount when the tax treatment of the two alternatives is the same? A) A share repurchase is equivalent to a cash dividend of an equal amount, so total shareholder wealth will be the same. B) A share repurchase will sometimes lead to higher total shareholder wealth than a cash dividend of an equal amount. C) A share repurchase will always lead to higher total shareholder wealth than a cash dividend of an equal amount

Get the readymade (~200$) at Macy’s  A and A

A and A. Go to Saks and use the Friends and Family 25% discount (good through the weekend) to pickup a nice Boss or Joseph Abboud for ~$600

A for the first one. read the question wrong. already making stupid mistakes!

  1. A 2) C I’m poor so I would just go for the 200-300 suit and spend 50 bux to tailor it. Try on as many as you can so the shoulders and waist fits. Edit: change #2 to A. I missed the part of having the same tax treatments.

^^^ if it’s always higher then how come you chose A for the first? A A.

Well, I’m going to meet a local tailor whom I’ve been referred to by many different people. He is a nice guy and it appears he has a client list who keep returning to him for suits and tailoring. I just want to know what a good price is for a good suit since the garbage I got at Men’s Warehouse has lost its shape rather quickly. At MW I got two nice looking tailored suites after college for $550.

Its all about the sales if you are hitting the dept stores. Your ~$300 then can buy you a nice looking Boss. Just dont let those fools at Macy’s alter it, they will do an awful job, it will all unwind…just take it to a decent tailor and have them do the alterations. If you are going to get a bespoke suit then I have no clue, I’d fly to Asia and have them do it there and ship it back to you.

Well let me throw this out. How about a Stafford Suit/Pants from Pennys? I’ve seen those and the prices are pretty good. Could this be tailored to look nice or is the brand too cheap?

i wouldnt do it. you are better off trying your luck at Men’s Wearhouse. also, try Banana Republic if Macy’s / Saks Fifth / Nordstroms doesn’t cut it.

In this case, ditch, you should demand a cash dividend so you can buy the suit. With repurchase, there is no guarantee that they buy as many shares from you to afford the expensive suit. They usually do it on a pro rate basis, which means you may only be able to buy at the Men’s Warehouse.

unless its a tender offer and you can submit all of your suits…then you could trade in your 2 suits for 1 super new fancy one

Plato’s Closet! Sorry. If I were to guess on the whole tailored suit idea I would go with what you might expect at a store and tack on a bit (~$100), so for you maybe thats $400/suit? I also think when you are there with him picking out fabrics if this is from scratch you will go thru how much each type may be.

Better question is where/what is this suit for? Are you going to be wearing it places where people can tell the difference between a $250 suit separates suit and a $2100 Zegna? I say leverage yourself a little… as you know, you can increase your returns exponentially as you add on the leverage.

It is an MBA Event, so yes, a bad suit will stick out. It is about time I get a new one anyway.
