Schweser ONLY Mock Results and Discussion

Mp3bu. That’s great. Even I passed in december, but it’s a long way to take the mocks.

Nice scores mp3bu. You seem to definitely be on track. When are you taking the mock exam?

Bump, bump, bump it up!

Took Schweser’s first two Book 1 exams. Exam 1 AM: 82 Exam 1 PM: 87 Exam 2 AM: 83 Exam 2 PM: 83 Frankly, even though I scored reasonably well, I don’t feel confident. I did not feel like these exams were as difficult as the CFA exam will be, and managed to squeak by on a lot of questions with quesswork or without a deep understanding of the material. I’ve used this opportunity (and the online Schweser exam evaluator) to highlight areas of weakness for me to study. I’m going to spend the next week doing that, then i’ll be able to take Schweser Exam 3 + 4. After that, another review, CFA Mock, then if I have time Exam 5 + 6 and the push to the finish.

Schweser book 1 Exam 1 AM 63% Exam 1 PM 58% Exam 2 AM 78% Exam 2 PM 72% Exam 3 AM 72% Exam 3 PM 69% Still a lot of guessing…Exam 3 PM was going alright until last 2 sets…guessed on all 12 and missed 10…both questions on exchange rates…just shows that one small topic can destroy you if you don’t have a solid understanding. Any insight on if the test will use both exchange rate quotes a/b & b:a? I was reading the a/b as a being the reference instead of b on exam 3 pm. I though CFAI said it will use b:a only so was not prepared for that.

Finished up the Schweser last week. Moving on the mock soon, but not without some additional review. Book 1 Test 1 AM: 75% Test 1 PM: 65% Test 2 AM: 73% Test 2 PM: 75% Test 3 AM: 77% Test 3 PM: 82% Book 2 Test 1 AM: 62% Test 1 PM: 80% Test 2 AM: 78% Test 2 PM: 80% Test 3 AM: 80% Test 3 PM: 77% CFA Sample Exam 1: 61%

They could switch the b/a, a:b notation around, have to watch for that. I normally rewrite b/a quotations as a:b quotations since that was the way I initially learned it.

finished first exam today 73 am 80 in the pm. Made a few real dumb mistkaes in the AM section.

Schweser Book 1 Test 2 AM: 80% Test 2 PM: 83% BUMP !

I don’t know how you guys are doing so well on Exam 3 of the Schweser books. I am finding it significantly harder than the first two, even with a second time through. I got finished reading the curriculum in February and have been doing practice exams since. I did all the Schweser mocks first and went through them in March. On April 1 I started my first pass at the 2010 CFAI mock. Then I reviewed for 2 weeks and did my first pass at the 2011 Mock in mid April. Since the beginning of May I have been re-working all of the exams. I was afraid that I would remember a bunch of questions but I found that I couldn’t remember very many, so I think the review is what has contributed to my increase in scores more than simply re-working problems. I am writing down every single question I miss and will create a test bank of all missed questions, then I will re-work all of those problems and review the Schweser notes for their topic. Anyway, here are my scores: Schweser Mock 1 first try AM - 42/60 = 70% Schweser Mock 1 first try PM - 39/60 = 65% Schweser Mock 1 2nd try AM - 46/60 = 77% Schweser Mock 1 2nd try PM - 50/60 = 83% Schweser Mock 2 first try AM - 41/60 = 68% Schweser Mock 2 first try PM - 38/60 = 63% Schweser Mock 2 2nd try AM - 51/60 = 85% Schweser Mock 2 2nd try PM - 41/60 = 68% Schweser Mock 3 first try AM - 33/60 = 55% Schweser Mock 3 first try PM - 38/60 = 63% Schweser Mock 3 2nd try AM - 38/60 = 63% Schweser Mock 3 2nd try PM - TBD CFAI 2010 Mock 1st try AM - 38/60 = 63% CFAI 2010 Mock 1st try PM - 35/60 = 58% CFAI 2010 Mock 2nd try AM - 43/60 = 72% CFAI 2010 Mock 2nd try PM - 41/60 = 68% CFAI 2011 Mock 1st try AM - 37/60 = 62% CFAI 2011 Mock 1st try PM - 35/60 = 58% CFAI 2011 Mock 2nd try AM - 48/60 = 80% CFAI 2011 Mock 2nd try PM - 46/60 = 77%

Can one assume that these Schweser practice exams (from everyone) are being completed in 3 hours w/o study aids?

I don’t keep track of my time, and I don’t use study aids while taking the tests. Since taking the exam is part of my review process, and since I get so anxious while doing the item sets I check each vignette as I finish it. I read the explanation for what I did wrong and then I move on to the next one.

My performances on the Schweser mocks so far have been terrible in comparison to almost everyone here. I have only done Volume 1 and my results are below (no study aids by the way): Test 1 AM: 62% Test 1 PM: 57% Test 2 AM: 70% Test 2 PM: 62% Test 3 AM: 65% Test 3 PM: 70% I plan to move on to Volume 2 tomorrow then do CFAI 2010 and 2011 mocks. The only plus side at the moment is that my Ethics, FRA and Equities scores are strong. If I can just manage to improve on alts and derivatives then I should be ok (i average a terrible 35% in these areas at present). During level 1 last year I only scored over 70 in 2 schweser mocks but still passed (I had strong FRA Ethic and Equities score). I just can’t seem to get the alts and derivatives questions right. If I can drastically improve on these and improve on all other areas by about 5% in the next week then I’ll be comfortable going into the exam.

Cyborg, Your scores are similar to mine. I wouldn’t be too worried if I were you because your scores aren’t terrible and as you said, you’re scoring well in the most important areas. Also, notice how there aren’t many people posting their scores? I doubt many people are feeling comfortable at this point in time. Just keep pushing and you’ll be alright.

Cheers. Yea I hope so. One final push and hopefully will get there before the exam day

jdough is right, just like hedge funds performance reporting there is a survivorship bias here. Those who are inclined to post on this board are by definition (for the most part) more diligent students. And then most of those aren’t inclined to post their scores when they perform poorly. In my opinion if you understand the big concepts and are getting 60’s at this point in your review process you should be ok come test day.

Yep, my thought is that mid 60’s to mid 70’s is good at this stage. If you look back at who passed in this thread last year, there were several with knock out scores, and several that passed who just barely broke 70 a couple of times. Understanding the concepts is a much better approach than getting a top score.

Finished first book of exams today 1AM: 73 1PM: 80 2AM: 88 2PM: 85 3AM: 75 3PM: 85 Struggled starting 3AM (got like 2/6 right to start), but finished strong. Scores are good, but still dont feel confident when im answering.
