Standards of Practice Handbook-Conducts as Members or CFA Candidates

From Schwester 2013, B1, page 80.

Example 5: (Compromising CFA Institute integrity as a volunteer)

A member who volunteer on a CFA Institute commitee tells her clients that what she learns through the committee work will allow her to better serve their interest. Comment:

She has violated the Standard by using her CFA committee position to benefit herself personally and to any extent her “inside” knowledge has benefitted her clients. My Question is really?, using what you have learned professionally and stating that as a matter of facts would also violate the Standard? I suppose if what she meant were “inside” knowledge then it would violate. Perhaps this scenario is just too vague.

My 2 cents on this -

I think the problem with this statement is “Since I am in this committee, I can serve you better”! Making a statement that I am learning a lot being a committee member would be perfectly fine.

Thanks for answering Sooraj! Jasper
