Start studying now??? No study done yet. Failed last year (9 bracket). Could have 3 full weeks off work to study. What does anyone thing? Worth a try? Usual strategy for exams is to cram like mad. Did 4 full weeks for lvl 1 (Passed 1st time), 3 full weeks for lvl 2 (Passed 1st time) and 3 full weeks for lvl 3 (Failed!).
assuming you don’t have any wife/kids responsibilities I would say you have a fighting chance of passing if you are an ANIMAL for those 3 weeks…the material is 99% the same as last year…
Hard to know. Usually pretty good at doing 9am till midnight with 2hrs of breaks during the day. Works out at about 315 hours. Not sure if thats enough though.
What on earth would possibly motivate you to use this method? (Prepare for a 100+ page thread…)
Well, I have done only about 50hrs of studying total so far (1st time doing L3)…and going to really trun it up now as work is finally letting me have some time…and I still think I can do it with taking only one week off work …so I am sure with 3 weeks and 2nd time writting you will be fine…
Always been a crammer. It’s just harder with these exams! Worked for L1 and L2 but clearly it didn’t last year for L3!
Out of interest - How far are you through the course after 50 hrs?
I think you can do it given your band last year. But boy, you’ve got go at it real hard.
Well you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. Just think you got Nirvana for three weeks. Cut your self from the real world. Your whole aim in life is L3 CFA. You may surprise yourself of what you can get done.
Cheers mate and cheers tibwa. Thats the plan alright. 9 till midnight every day. Reason I’m hesitant is I’m trying to decide from a work perspective whether to do it or not. Working on a big debt restructuring for a plc client in work at the moment. It’ll still be going on when I get back and work are supportive but I don’t want to miss out on the experience if I’m then gonna fail the exam. I’d rather just defer till next year if I don’t think there is a chance I can get them.
McE, if you retained any information from last year I would think you have a decent shot. You spent the same amount of time last year and got to band 9. If you can build on your knowledge you can jump over the hurdle.

I have read through all the schewser material and currently working through the CDs, about half way through the CDs…my read through the schewser was amazingly quick though, so no retention…

I think they hit the main points quite well…Its the first time I am using them and so far extremely helpfull…I am hoping to finish them by end of this coming week and then spend one week on Secret Sauce and Formulas then hit questions for last two weeks and then pray for a miracle…

Because i believe the bulk of the L3 are there.I did not realize that lat year. Of course, I expect to do well in SS 1& 2 given the fact you have studying these things before.
Cheers tibwa. Actually got 70+ in Individual and Institutional Ptf Mgmt last year in the am. They were the first questions in the morning. Spent too much time on them though and was chasing the clock from an hour in. Still unsure about nailing it this year though.

I am done with my first read through of schweser and am now debating between EOC’s and the Videos. I’m leaning towards doing the EOC’s first - though I will only be reading, not writing the answers out. I would like to combine the video’s when I start hitting the question bank after the EOC’s.

After watching the CDs that correspond to the appropriate book I am reading through the EOC questions… Helps with retention due to repetition…
Good deal. Thanks for the input!
WOW N.VAN - you are a beast, only 50 hours and through the notes? This include doing end of chapter too? I started studying in January, unfortunatley I didn’t retain most of what I have read.
