The Official 2012 CFA Level 3 Results Thread

Passed, never mind in 3/3, did this aged 51. Am already a regular member, now just waiting for the email from CFAI confirming that I can use the charterholder designation.

PS Can someone please explain in detail how to copy and paste your results so that they don’t appear as one long vertical list? That other post about using notebook or some such doesn’t work for me

I straight headed for a party after my post. It’s morning here & still feel to get drunk over again :slight_smile:

Took some courage to go through this thread with all the passes, but here goes. I failed Band 1. Half the morning and two thirds of afternoon <50%. I studied hard and long too, but clearly not enough, entirely the wrong way and fell for every trick in the book. Shocking how I could have left the exam thinking I had a chance to pass and definitely didn’t bomb it, only to actually bomb it miserably. I don’t think I wrote in the wrong places or anything like that. Just wasn’t sufficiently prepared and had zero luck.

Really scratching my head more than disappointed in my effort, although next time I am going to lean MUCH heavier on CFAI. Relying on Schweser and FinQuiz turned out to be an expensive mistake for L3. I actually fell into the same band as those who showed up, left the morning session blank and randomly filled out bubbles in the afternoon! Amazing.

But I’ll be back. Been in this position before - and passed L2 on the second try. And the second time around was a much less painful experience preparation-wise.

I am particularly inspired by the post above from Goes to Eleven - now THAT is what I call persistence and determination. And there is absolutely no shame in not getting by L3 on the first try.

The pain is also eased by knowing that in a few weeks I start a new job back in an analyst role after having extricated myself from research production, where I’ve been stuck since the market crashed in '08. So in a sense passing L3 would have been merely icing on the cake. I’m determined to find out what that icing tastes like some day.

Hard Luck Dapoopa. All the best for next year. PASSED! I’m a retaker after a band 10 fail in 2010. I took a year off - big mistake. It was so hard to get back into the mindset. I should have gone straight through. Anyway I got it this time since I actually put the work in. Looks like a comfortable pass too (72% 40/60/80). Interesting to see the scores on the last derivatives question on the Morning AM paper. I spent way too long on it, at least 25 mins, at least I got the marks, but it does appear that people scored especially badly on that question. 1 Portfolio Management - Individual 27 - * - 2 Portfolio Management - Individual 9 * - - 3 Portfolio Management - Execution 21 - - * 4 Portfolio Management - Individual 17 - * - 5 Economics 24 - - * 6 Portfolio Management - Institutional 34 - * - 7 Fixed Income Investments 23 - * - 8 Derivatives 13 - - * 9 Derivatives 12 - - * Item Set Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 - - * - Equity Investments 18 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standard 36 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 18 - - * - Portfolio Management 18 - * - - Portfolio Management - Asset Allocation 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Individual 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Performance Eval 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Risk Management 18 - - *

Congratulations to everyone who passed the level 3 exam. And to those who didnt make it this time around, dont give up. You are almost there, only one more step to go and you will be done with it.

I would like to ask a few questions about the level 3 exam. I intend to register at the end of August for the exam, it will be my first attempt. I have seen from the posts above issues about writing in the wrong part of the answer - how are the answer books structured and how would you know that you are writing in the correct part? Is the essay part of the results standing for questions (i.e. 9 questions in the morning essay section) or do they signify topic areas covered under the program like levels one and two. Will appreciate your assistance.

Congrats rahul. Are you from Mumbai?

Finally thru with this. Had a really tough time getting through. Band 10, Band 10 the last two years so yes, what a relief to finally read that word “Congratulations” in the email. For me the problem was exam time execution. I thought I had put in the hours and done enough practice exams but always struggled with execution. Always left 1 or 2 question unanswered in the AM, made it an ego thing if I wouldnt get an answer right that I knew I would if I spend more time. Cant do that. Did Creighton Review in Omaha this year and thought that did help calm me down as the exam neared. So best wishes to folks still hanging in there. there is always hope.

I’m done, exit stage left
