The Soccer Thread

I’m going to go with a Madrid win, but Bayern scores just to make it interesting.

Dude, I said relatively. He was tactically savy but not in the league of Sachhi, Benitez, Lippi or Ancelotti. His other attributes though dwarves the other managers.

AVB is a very tactically astute manager, He’s flopped twice now. Why? Because his man management, motivation etc probably sucks.

Your looking at it very linearly and defining rules, Football is like life- there is infite grey area. You said a managers main job is to win. So by that definition Ferguson is the greatest manager to have lived and no one really comes close.

I don’t mix them up, I understand that it needs to be a blend of all. My POV is not EPL centric at all. If it was i would not rate Benitez.

Also, Paisley won 3 Champions league titles. The only manager in History to have done so. He also did it in a time span of 8 years.

Why do they dwarf other managers? What makes you think he’s a better motivator than Pep Guardiola or Carlos Bianchi or even Mourinho? There are managers who have excelled in both of these areas, Ferguson is not one of them.

I mentioned “winning” as the goal because you were criticizing Mourinho’s negative tactics, and it is true, Mourinho was playing to win the game, not to impress the fans.

Paisley was a great manager, no arguments there. But if Mourinho wins a third, are you going to change your tune? I would argue that the CL today is more difficult than it was during Paisley’s time.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Read it slowly, You might follow.

His other attributes dwarfs the other managers becuase of sheer longetivity. Pep Guardiola and Mourinho might be as good as him but we need to see how their career pans out over the same time span that Ferguson spent. No one has a record of being at the top for so long in this game like Fergie.

Lets assume your rule for being a great manager as winning. So who has won more trophies than Ferguson? No one, He’s the best… period.

I have no problem with playing to win and doing it dirty if your hands are tied. But if you’re going to criticize refs and act like a prick then for us to tolerate you the football has to be brilliant. Oh and especially if you spend upwards of 100 million pounds to build your squad.

Mourinho will win a third, He’s been around forever and won 2. Pep came when? 2007,08 i think. Guess how much he’s won.

2, Same as Mourinho and his team have given us the best football in a decade and he’s conducted himself well. Oh and he destroyed Mourinho in La Liga.

Why do Indian people feel like they’re footballing geniuses?

And thats how it’s done.

Yea, wheres the Indian national team?

Luka Modric is insane to watch.

He and Silva. Liquid.

Ha Ha, We’re coming baby, we’re coming.

Cricket rules here unfortunately but now you see an equal no of people playing cricket and football in the cities. When the game reaches the more poor parts of the country the game will explode.

Fifa has already declared that the U-17 world cup will be held here and Barcelona, Liverpool, etc have set up academies. We just need the first fball superstar to get things rolling.

The Chinese have already made it to a world cup i think, Imagine when we both join and the Asian countries like Japan and Korea get more technical and better.

We’re going to have a party.

But he takes longer than average to release the ball especially when counter-attacking.

Thankfully, Madrid defended well tonight. Ramos’s head was in the right place and Pepe did not act crazy.

China, Japan etc. won’t do shit. One or two players might make it big individually but that’s it. No achievements as a team.

My bet is on Afghanistan and Australia. Afghanistan needs money/infrastructure and Australia needs a good coach and a strategy. Afghanies are very hulky and they pass neatly.

I dont know how an Indian team would do…unless you guys better nutritioned every other player is gonna knock you skinny guys around.

Japan will do very well.

Been consistently making it to the round of 16 in the world cup and keep producing better quality players. First it was Nakata now they have Honda, Kagawa, Endo, Yuto etc.

They have a plan and play the game with emphasis on the technical points. They’ll do well.

The Uzbeks and Afghanis are sitting on a lot of potential though i agree.

Asia is coming.

Big words coming from a Mexican guy.

Don’t get you , Is this another weird stereotype?

If you mean round of 16 by “very well”, then sure Japan will do very well. But they have hit the ceiling there.

Kagawa is pretty average player from what I have seen. I don’t know how good he was at Dortmund though.

Again, they are individuals. Japan does not perform well as a team. Portugal is another example. Portugal is still quite good but perform below the expectations.

On the other hand, you have Uruguay, Colombia, Switzerland who perform well as a team despite having not 11 superstars.

Not for a forseeable future. Qatar 2022 CAN be the high point.

Nope they have a substantial population, they have money, infrastructure and the right ideas. Before long they’ll be taking on the Europeans.

Portugal and England do not underperform, they perform about in line with their resources.

The Czech Rep, Croatia, Uruguay and Colombia do overperform but they have very unique reasons for that,

Qatar will still be too early i think, the one after that wherever it is maybe but steps are being taken. Money is being poured into the chinese league and a whole structure is being set up so i do think they can do quite a lot. The only question is how long will they take?

Japan and Korea are going to be really good, and Japan is already starting to match the very best teams.
