thread about general CFA info

I think we should have a sticky about the CFA exams in general For ex: the three types, the registration fees, time of offering, exam formats etc. just saying…

you must not have checked the cfai website…

no no, its not that i have checked it. but I am just saying, it’d be nice to have everything in one place. for future CFA takers. You come to this forum hoping for background info, and there is none. Thats all

OK, I’ll start this off. There are now four exams, not three. The exams are given July of each year and you should spend approximately 35 hours preparing. The exams are open book and you can collaborate with the exam taker sitting directly to your right. If you are on the end of the row, sorry, you are out of luck. That is why you want to show up for the exam approximately 2.5 hours beforehand. Oh, and don’t worry about checking the CFA website for this information as it is much better to obtain this info second hand.

This forum isn’t meant to provide a stale cache of background information. Edit: TMurf beat me to it.

It’d be nice to have everything in one place…like CFAI.com?

cfai.com is a link to columbia financial advisors nvm you guys took this thing way too seriously Thanks for replying though!

OK Dpatel, how about if we discuss such important topics like: -what cities use what type of metal folding chairs for the exam -should they maybe change the “colors” of the levels to-- Level I-yellow; Level II- purple; Level III- hot pink -how many words can you name that include all the letters “C”, “F” and “A”

cfai.com is short hand for “CFAInstitute.com”. Thanks for playing.

what is up with green red and blue? I guss green is for go for L1, because its the easiest, red for l2 because that’s where quite a few people stop. But blue for L3???

talk about social life deprivation. Asked a simple question but seems like you snots have nothing better to do but play “who is the wittiest douchebag” on the forum. Go ahead carry on, dont let me stop you.

Wow our forum is full frustated d**kheads with so much pent up aggression. Well it could be cause most of us were ignored by our parents or maybe they were a little to protective or i can go on & on about the possibilities. But the only reson that makes sense to me is that all of us are giving the CFA exams. Welcome to CFA Dpatel soon you’ll be one of us. Just another d**khead waiting for an opportunity to vent that pain. Thank you for being the mouse tonite.

Dpatel Welcome to the forum… most members here are cynical, bitter and twisted. They work in finance!!! The members don;t want to waste their time rechurning information that is easily accessible in one place, i.e. the CFAI website. If you have specific questions, I’ve found the AF members to be more than willing to offer detailed and genuine answers.

Willier is completely right. the bitter answers you’re getting are because people don’t want to waste time. rules for most than just this forum but also for working in finance. 1) don’t ask lazy questions. If the answer is simple (not easy, but simple) to find, do it yourself. 2) don’t ask other people to do your work for you 3) ask questions that make people think. 4) ask relevant questions then some of the bitterness will go away.

I think there should be more stickies. By way of example, last year Schweser confused everyone with the defintion of some ratio. There were countless threads seeking clarification on the issue. This was something a sticky would have resolved. It is also worth noting that the majority of responses to these questions did not give the solution, or a link to the solution, but instead chose to try to put down the poster. Many saying that they should have searched etc. However, with all the non-answers it made searching quite tricky! Sometimes I wonder if I started a topic that said “What is 2+2?” how many reponses I would get before anyone actually said 4. It is not that I’m encouraging silly questions just that the time taken to write “Google it”, or “What a stupid question” is more than the time it would take to answer the question. Perhaps I’ll try.

It would be nice to have more stickeys I agree. Stalla vs Schweser, Study Schedules, Ethics, FSA, ECON, Quant, etc.
