Triathlon training thread and Race Schedule / Results (KMD's stomping grounds)

I looked at my watch at like 50 seconds after I jumped in for the swim, thinking I was like 1/5 of the way through and hadn’t even gone a minute, haha. Then I thought, ok I’ll wait till the 1/2 mile point to check my watch. I thought 15min had passed and it was 3min. I thought damn, this is going to be a long 5:30-6:30 hours… fuck … oh well, fuck it. Then I looked at my watch again under water… fuck … fuck … ok lets do this… lol

I honestly thought I was going to get a 38min time and then saw the finish of the swim coming ahead and got real amped, then decided to do some real strong clean swimming with powerful strokes with a decidedly slow T1 to recover. I seeded myself in 27-30min, but kept hitting people’s feet with my hands — a whole swarm of slower people were in front of me and I think they seeded themselves in the wrong category and I kept having to swim towards the shore/land to get around them, which was very annoying. I felt my seeding was reasonable, but if I went next year to that course, I’d have to stand in the 27min or below I guess? I was talking to this South American dude - post race - over a beer about seeding - he got a 4:28 and we were talking race strategy. Swim seeding was one of the things and I think I should have compensated for all the slow people seeding themselves incorrectly. I looked at the group and they did look slower than me in swimming, but you can never really tell in swimming, so didn’t want to seed myself in the wrong category with respect to other racers. Even in the NYC 1 mile, I stood 2nd row and pretty much was top 40 or so in the first 200m-400m so felt it was a good seed.

My 2013 Augusta swim time was faster, but we took off in groups rather than single file, which I liked a lot better as I typically swim way ahead of the group in the beginning or even swim under people to get ahead and set a pace.

I was thinking of doing 5 bridge repeats or something this morning, but then it got boring and I just started riding. I thought I would ride until I got tired, but didn’t really get tired.

41mi this morning - I felt like a completely different cyclist today for some reason. I’ve been taking a lot of rest lately - maybe that is it.

KMD - hows your training going

weak, KMD … weak…

I think I’m going to PR this 70.3 on Sunday

Swim - prob slower

T1 - 5 min faster

Bike - 15min faster

T2 - 5 min faster

Run - should be faster

total - 5:00 - 5:45 possible

I haven’t done much run or swim training, but my bike/bike/bike strategy will probably take me to 5:00 (not Sunday - in general) Def no way 4:30 is possible without hardcore specific training for each event.

Still hope to just have fun and avoid injury so prob 5:40-5:50, stretch goal 5:30… :stuck_out_tongue:

That bike was crazzzzzyyyyyyyyy. Omg.

The swim was crazy too. I usually train in the ocean so it was normal for me, but others looked like they were dying out there or wayyyy off course and there wasn’t enough staff to stop them, so they were just like … gone. Not unsafe or anything but like, wow, your time just went out the window, lol.
